I have just been reading 'What to expect..' and it sys to wash all fruit, including those that you peel Confused

I'm very good at washing fruit/salad/veg etc but I have never washed a banana and don't get why you would need to!?

Or is it well known amongst pregnant ladies that one should wash ones bananas? I have one every day without fail -eeep

Ha ha this made me laugh. I have done some equally pfb things though. Like drying baby's bum (which had very red eczema admittedly) with a hair dryer.

Just to make you all Grin I also read somewhere that people wash their potatoes in the dishwasher!!! Americans - when they've got loads of people around for thanksgiving dinner and they've got loads of spuds and can't be arsed to wash them manually!

LOL at only using bottled water to wash your fanjo! I wouldn't put it past the sort of person who writes these books.

I think the advice to wash fruit which you're going to peel is for things like apples and pears: where the knife might spread germs from the outside to the inside as you peel. Obviously not an issue for bananas, where you just pull the peel off. Grin

Set fire to your copy of the book and smoke that bacteria off your banana Grin

And I second whoever said have a glass of wine!

Ok, I have a 10 week old, and never washed bananas...I do now have a real urge to go and buy this book for a laugh, though!

isnt it the same kinda think with pregnancy as a young child?
as the first child born into my family i was wrapped in cotton wool at all times (knowing my mother, probably literally)
my brother was second and was pretty much eating dinner off of the kitchen floor.. im always ill and he isnt..
same during pregnancy?! immune systems need to be used!!!!
i hope im right, i had an unwashed banana for breakfast!
