Hi folks this is my second pregnancy and I've not been seen by anyone yet. I'm hopefully having those appointments next week, but I just wanted some reassurance that it's not a total disaster!!!!

oh gosh. should you have had the nuchal scan at 12 weeks? or do you not get that in your area?

did you not make an appt to see the midwife when you first knew you were pregnant?

Have u had problems getting appointments or were you late making them ?

jessebuni · 22/06/2012 13:20

you probably should have had an appointment with someone so far but then again with second pregnancies they tend to be a bit lacking i've found anyway. i'm nearly the end of my second pregnancy and out of the 12 appointments that the midwife originally planned to do (the little rosses at the weeks she plans to see you on your yellow notes) i've had about 6 AND i'm 41weeks+3

apparently generally after 30 weeks the gaps between your appointments should drop to 3 weeks then 2 weeks then every week for like the last three weeks and extras if you go overdue. i didn't see my midwife between 33 weeks and 38 weeks! a 5 week gap right at the end seemed a little excessive. although this isn't entirely the midwive's fault it's mainly because she is the ONLY midwife for surgery so she is so far stretched.

either way have you got a date for your first appointment yet? at the yet least you should have a date when you are going to see your midwife to fill in your paperwork and book in.

I'm 35 weeks with my third I've physically seen my midwife twice and obv had my 2 scans but begged the GP to see me next week as I need to know which way up my baby is and if my blood pressure is ok

I don't want to sound overly dramatic, but I'm going through a stressful divorce and I was trying to keep the pregnancy a secret. I've also been living abroad and have just returned to the uk, and have been staying with various friends and relatives, and have only now managed to get myself booked in with a GP.

I've got the scan and booking appt nxt week hopefully. So hopefully everything will be ok with the poor little mite.

ahh ok, i think people thought that you hadn't had them because you just hadn't been able to get an appointment sooner or something!

I am sure all will be fine, it is in the vast majority of cases, and in days of old our parents had to make do with no scans etc :-)

hope your appointments go well

I got back from living abroad at about 18 weeks (maybe more) and had to start from scratch. I'd had a couple of scans and doctor's visits before coming back but tbh I wasn't totally convinced the doctor was even sober Hmm I never even had my BP checked! Anyway, I was pretty glad to be back in the hands of the NHS and I had a scan within a couple of weeks and just slotted in to the pattern of the pregnancy appointments with no problems. Not much happens with maternity care in the first 12 weeks anyway so you've probably come back at a good time :) congratulations!

Hi, I didn't see anyone until I was roughly 16wks (I think) now 36, it was fine, I just had really bad morning sickness and to even get out of bed was a huge effort. You'll catch up with appointments and scans, one thing I did miss out on was a certain blood test for down syndrome I forget what it's actually formally called as I was a day over their limit.
