Light bleeding - how much is too much?

Hi All

I'm 5 weeks pregnant and had some bleeding yesterday. It has stopped now, thankfully, but I'm just curious to know if I should be worried? I called the hospital and they said to come in so I eventually saw a doctor last night and he said it was normal to have 'light bleeding' and that because I didn't have pain, cramping or clotting, that it most likely wasn't a miscarriage. So, really what does 'light bleeding' mean? And how often can it happen?

This is my first pregnancy and it's all a bit scary because no-one tells you this stuff! Blush

Thanks for any thoughts!

I had bleeding throughout my pregnancy varying from fairly light, pinky orange or brown to extremely heavy bright red with clots. We had numerous scans and I was admitted to hospital at 28 weeks after a particularly bad one. They gave me steroids in case they needed to deliver me early. After another scan though they couldn't find anything of concern and I went on to carry her full term. She's 8 months old now and perfect but we never found out why I was bleeding. Try not to worry, bleeding doesn't always mean the end. Fingers crossed for you.

Thank you Jo for your advice - I'm finding out lots of stuff I didn't know! I'm going to try and keep stress free and keep my feet up!

Thanks x
