Sciatica hell - any advice?

Hi All

Im hoping someone out there can help! I am 25 weeks and I have had non stop sciatica pain for a week (signed off for 2 weeks, using a walking stick to get around etc etc) and need to do something to relieve the pain. The only thing is i am too scared to try anything in case i make it worse - so a vicious circle!

Has anybody had scaitica and treated it or at least helped the pain in some way?! I am so worried i will have this for the rest of my pregnancy :(
Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Thankyou

Have you tried the Alexander technique? I tried it with mine - after just sessions I no longer have the awful pain travelling down my legs & the pan is just concentrated in my back, which is much easier to cope with. I've had chronic back pain for 14 years & ha a disc operation last year (& another slipped disc this year - am 2 weeks pregnant) so totally sympathise. X

I had this in both pregnancies. Chiro helps, if only for a while.

The good news is that it passes. Mine didn't last until the end of my pregnancies.

Several months after the birth, have your gait checked.

I had it - but not as badly as you - the midwife suggested it was the position of the baby and it might go again, or it could stay, and luckily for me, it went away. I tried to keep fairly mobile, but I'm not sure if that would work for everyone.

Have you tried a support belt and/or tens machine. I had it really bad but it got much better by around 30 weeks. I'm 37 weeks now and don't have any back/hip pain or pain when walking just a bit around my public bones. Hopefully yours will get better too.

How about pregnancy yoga? I've got a DVD that has some moves specifically for sciatica. Can't remember the exact title, but the woman's name is Tara and the front cover is brown.

Is it def sciatica? Thought I had it but it was pgp, pelvic girdle pain...spd in a different place. Babycentre have a good page on it and there is a website too. Recommendations have helped me.
