Whereabouts in Ireland are you?

I live in Northern Ireland and got scans at 12, 20, 34 weeks. Not sure if all hospitals are the same, or depending on whereabouts in the country you are.

I'd imagine that 12 week scans are pretty common, but I know that a lot of my friends didn't get the 34 week scan in their hospital. The hospital I go to checks women at 34 weeks to try to estimate the weight/length of the baby.

Im down south.
I only ask as someone said you dont get them anymore

Im from south and you don't get 20 week scan as routine anymore. You still get the 12 week one.

Needles which hospital did you go to? I'm going to craigavon and I'm trying to find out if they do 34 week scans. Have an app there fri so i can ask then I suppose.

Hey, I'm in Co Down (North) and got 12 wk and 20 wk scans - I think that's standard for all the trusts up here. Don't think you get any other scans unless there's a particular need (growth scan etc) but I could be wrong of course.

Thank you all for your help. i shall ask my gp this morning when.

Yes you do (I'm in Dublin), but perhaps it depends on your hospital's policy. Also you need to book/get your GP to register you will the hospital ASAP or you might miss out in a scan/have it as late as 16 weeks.

Also remember nuchal fold/genetic disorder screening is not routine here at 12 weeks, you will need to pay privately for that.

BeanDunne · 19/06/2012 07:51

Thanks zara im only 4+6 so i have lots of time. going to gp this morning to get a mid wife referral.

I wont be getting any screening done as i feel if there is something wrong a test wont change that and i will be perfectly happy with whatever i get :)

I know everyone feels differently about it though.

Rachel I go to the Mater (North Belfast) got scan at 34 weeks with DS. Think it was a standard scan, they weren't worried about my bump size. They were only 1 oz wrong with their estimation, so I was impressed!

Am now 31 weeks with DC2 so am curious to know if I'll get a late scan with this one too.

SuperSesame · 19/06/2012 08:11

In cork you do get one, although only if you book early after bfp, otherwise seems to be sometime between week 12 and 14. CUMH are fab if it's there feel free to ask me about it.

BeanDunne · 19/06/2012 08:41

Great Bean! You'll defo be fine getting a scan booked in time Smile

Only mentioned about the screening etc because many people I know have been surprised when I've told them it's not routine and part of public care like in the UK.

Best of luck and congratulations!! Smile
