Also got a really chesty cough at the moment - mw suggested simple linctus but pharmacist would not let me buy it as he said it was not suitable during pregnancy - any suggestions??

steam inhalation! The very very best remedy for any cough.

My stomach is also really hurting with all the coughing - just hoping it's having no effect on the baby!

When I was PG the consultant obs/gynae prescribed me some sort of cough syrup whilst cheerily saying - oh we can't actually prescribe one that will actually do anything while you are PG. I would go for lots of drinks, and maybe some honey and lemon in hot water to soothe your throat.

Thankyou!!

My gp prescribed me codeine linctus. I found it helped a night time as it made me drowsy enough to go to sleep despite the coughing. He did say nothing would really work while pregnant but I found it a help anyway.

Also, go to your GP if you develop a worse temperature or if your phlegm turns green and yucky as it means the cough is infected and he'll prescribe you safe antibiotics for pregnancy.

Hi
I have the exact same thing. Have been prescribed simple linctus - not sure how effective it has been and tastes horrible but cough does seem to be subsiding.

Also got terrible pain in my side from pulled muscle after all the coughing - definately worse than the coughing itself!!

I bought a honey and glycerol linctus from Boots today - it wont help the cough but might soothe my throat a bit. You can take paracetamol too. Oh the joys of being ill when pregnant!!
