drink and dye pre 12 weeks!!

Has anyone else had alcohol before finding out they were pregnant. Also had hair highlighted pre 12 weeks pregnant as didn't realise it was a danger until reading some of previous threads!! Anyone else done this and will my baby be alright???

i got almightily squiffy twice before realised was up the duff. bouncingly healthy baby.

the chances are your baby will be fine. worrying about it would do it more harm

drinking - drank a lot prior to finding I was pg with dd - wedding and a leaving party. she is fine

hair dying - didn't know it was dangerous so have done it merrily thoughout both my pg..... both fine!

I got thoroughly drunk at Xmas work dos (twice) and took powerful anti travel sickness pills (didn't twig it was morning sickness) for a massive drink fuelled trip up to Sunderland to watch a footie match. I also got tear gassed in Marseille (at another match).

and baby was fine!

If you are really worried, ask your midwife and I'm sure she will reassure you.

oh and got drunk last weekend before having a bfn earlier this week...

Worryinone I scoured the internet about hairdye when I first found out i was pregnant, as i had just dyed my hair, and I found one article about how it might be dangerous because nobody knows what it does, and thousands of articles saying it most likely causes no harm at all. Also highlights barely touch your skin!

seeing as circa 50% of PGs are unplanned, I think a fair few women have alcohol/brie/go to gym, and in my case have an dental x-ray before they found out they were PG. Highlights are absolutely fine as they dont even touch your scalp!

What is a bfn cece?

JOWEN - thanks for that link - I feel much better now! and thanks mummytosteven - was highlights that I had and have regularly - but they do have bleech in them I think.

cece - did you dye your hair in the first 3 months with either pregnancy?

I dyed my hair (just touched it up today too ) and I'm 11 wks. I dyed it throughout my last pg too. Mw's say the reason why you should be careful is because of the hormones flying around can have funny effects on the dye (I.e not taking as well or taking too well). Personally I wouldn't use bleach and do my whole head while i'm pg but highlights, a darker dye etc won't do any harm.

Sure it wasn't pure bleech - my hair is blond(ish) anyway but think the highlights have bleech in them to make my hair lighter than it is.

I did a pg test (BFN) and went on a boozy hol for a week....drank like a fish....2 more neg tests.... finally got my BFP after about 3 weeks of MASSIVE overdoing it. Wine, cheese, raw meat, you name it food wise, I ate it. DD is fine now. Please don't worry.

Didn't hear about the highlight problem til after I'd had mine done but that's fine too.

Wow, worryinone - steady on girl, you'll be worrying yourself to a frazzle at this rate! Honestly, hon, unless you're mainlining hard drugs or knocking back triple vodkas regularly, I'm sure your little baby will be fine. All the stress of panicing about what you should and shouldn't do is probably more harmful than the odd highlight! I do know how easy it is for me to say this, with two pregnancies over and done with but you sound very sensible and caring, so I'm sure you'll both be just fine.

I know - guess was feeling a bit irresponsible!

I drank unknowingly at about 3 or 4 wks pg

but as soon as I suspected I gave up totally until 16 weeks

worryinone - yes I had dye (between the highlights) and highlights to cover the grey - although with the first the hairdresser would only do highlights once she found out I was PG.

With the second a different hairdresser happily dyed my hair. This month I have used ahome dye before finding out I was PG again.

I don't know anybody who didn't unknowingly drink before finding out they were pg, what does that say about my mates?! All have turned out fine. I hope I don't prove to be the exception because I'm 11wks, got drunk at least twice over xmas/new year and haven't had my first scan yet....fingers x'd. Have had very conflicting advice about drinking whilst pg tho, have had nothing yet but assume a couple of units a week will be ok?

I went on a hen weekend the week before my period was late. I figure that as long as I dont drink knowing I was pregnant then I cant have done much harm. Also depending apon when your drunk, the egg may not have attached itself to the womb lining at that point ie 1 week before your period so the drink wouldnt have effected it.
As for hair dying, I am now and I did with DD continue to dye my hair. I did move to semi perm colours or highlights. Highlights are meant to be better for you as they do not touch the scalp and therefore less chemicals go into your bloodsteam. All hair dyes to some degree containe bleech.
Out of the millions of pregnant women in the world im sure the majority of them wouldve drunk or dyed their hair before finding out they were pregnant.
