Boy or girl? Can you tell?

Is there any truth in being able to tell if you're having a boy or girl from the shape of your bump? I've heard all out front/ball like is likely to be a boy and carrying all around is a girl?? Load of rubbish or not?

Practically everyone said I was carrying a boy from the shape of my bump but bump turned out to be a girl so I don't think you can.

No. Sorry! Boys and girls aren't shaped differently (well, only in one key area and that makes little difference!) What makes up the bump shape is a mix of your muscles, pelvic floor, body fat levels, ammniotic fluid, blood etc. And that all varies massively from person to person.

Logic tells you all you need to know really.

I don't think you can from the shape of the bump - but I think perhaps my body knew as in my dreams from just before I found out I was pregnant the baby has always been a girl, which was confirmed at my 20 week scan. Maybe coincidence, but I've never dreamt I had a boy. I also don't have a sweet tooth and had very sweet cravings at the beginning and still can't get enough orange juice/fanta which I normally hate - but that one is probably an old wives tale!

I don't think so, I had two bump exactly the same shape and size, one was a boy, the second was a girl Smile

With my boys i put on weight all over, with this pg twin girls very much up front and like a football :)

No, from my nct group we all had a guess and were all wrong. But I just knew I was having a boy. Bump was always 'he' from day one. And he first started moving during 'Fast and Furious 5' which my DH dragged me to. Scan confirmed it!

Suppose everyone is different but for me yes with my daughter i was carrying all round and seemed to put weight on everywhere where as with my son just a little bump out front. Xx

exexe · 17/06/2012 17:37

Most people seemed to have guessed from my cravings and aversions.
I didn't have strong cravings with my boys and could eat most things (especially cakes), but with this pregnancy (which is a girl according to 20 week scan) I craved orange juice, fizzy drinks and ice lollies. I'm not into cakes and stodgy desserts at all and have gone off chocolate.
I also went totally off coffee at the beginning and I'm one of those people who thinks the best way to start a day is with a good strong cappuccino.

if you could tell, people would get it right all the time

monkeymoma · 17/06/2012 20:03

nope, according to all gender predicting old wives tales and chinese charts I was having a girl when I had DS

y'see the people who "never get it wrong" only remember the times they got it right Wink one such bump profit bought my new baby gifts before DS was born - all pink and dresses Grin, she still goes around claiming to never be wrong about bump shapes and symptoms meaning boy or girl!

monkeymoma · 17/06/2012 20:04

was huge all over with DS too, not just me with a football unfortunately!
