Fibroid degeneration

Hi there
Just wondered if anyone else out there has had any experience of fibroid degeneration?? This all kicked off for me at 17 weeks .... About 4 weeks ago now . I had a soar tummy one day at work and the next am woke to excruciating pain in my side and vomiting. I was admitted to hospital for 4 days when I could barely move yet alone get out of bed to get to the toilet! Apparently this all occurred as a result of the fibroid outgrowing its blood supply ... I guess due to the baby growing. They can't remove it during pregnancy and have said hopefully it will settle down but may recur. It's now 4 weeks on and I'm still unable to walk any distance without pain and am in discomfort all the time. I have no idea when I will be better and able to return to my normally very active life .
Would love to hear anyone else's experiences of this.

I have a few fibroids and was also warned about degeneration. Luckily mine did not degenerate but I still got the pain you describe and I expect to get it at every growth spurt of the baby.

Mine lasts 4-5 days each time it happens and I cannot walk, sit or lie down properly in that time and reach for the codeine. I have had 3 episodes of severe pain all at least a week apart and one episode recently which wasn't that bad. I could lie down but not really walk.

It is a completely different thing but I am hoping your pain will be the same and eventually pass as well?

Forgot to say I am 30+4 today.

Hi geekette thanks for your message. It's really interesting to hear others experiences of these nasty fibroids. Sorry to hear yours are giving u so much hassle too. At least you don't have too long to go now. Do you think your baby may arrive early? I've heard that can happen sometimes if u have this problem. Look after yourself and hopefully you are over the worst .

Yes. It is predicted I will be about 2 weeks early. I don't think too much about it. one day at a time and all that. good luck and don't worry too much.

I had contractions caused by fibroid pain at 31+5-6 with DD2. Ended up on labour ward, had steroid injections and went into labour at. ....... 40+4!

Mine did settle down luckily and I only have 1 fibroid but it was absolute agony at the time.

Geekette - when is your baby due?? Hope things going ok at the moment. Brettgirl - thanks for your MSG too. Just wondered how long it took for your fibroid to settle down? It's now been four weeks since I went into hospital in agony and im still in some pain. Driving and bending down seem to make it a lot worse and I'm still off work which is un-heard of for me!!

I had a fibroid in my 1st pregnancy that grew to about 7cm but luckily didn't give me any pain. The reason I mention this is it shrunk away after giving birth and no trace of it at all in any subsequent scans. So hopefully you won't have to suffer once the pregnancy is over.
Good luck!
