Creme patissiere - yay or nay?

I'm in France at the moment and have been avoiding the delicious looking strawberry tarts etc as they have creme patissiere in them. Am I being overly cautious? Do you think I could have one? Just a little one...?? :)

Why can't you have one? Of course you can! Creme patissiere is cooked!

(I assume you were thinking raw egg)

You are being overly cautious. Have half a dozen. I'll have some too. My address is

Really? Yes I was assuming there was raw egg in it. A few years ago in fortnum and mason I saw a hamper for new mums which had foods that you can't have when pregnant like wine, blue cheese, etc. I'm sure there was something in it with creme patissiere. Maybe I was wrong. So what if I was! I'm off the the patisserie tout de suite! Thank you Grin

well I cook it when I make it! Heat milk, whisk together eggs and sugar, add flour, pour hot milk over it, stir and return to the pan, cook until it thickens. I'd say that will cook the eggs!
