Brown spotting and bad cramp 16 weeks

Hi
I've had brown spotting since yesterday. Was told by midwife at triage to rest yesterday. Stopped and started again over the last 12 hours but hasn't been much at all. Felt cramp last night before bed but wasn't sure if it was jus indigestion or constipation. Woke up this morning. Plain all round my lower back and stomach. Paracetomol didn't make it better so triage have told me to go in.
I'm 17 weeks on Monday. All was fine at 12 week scan. Anyone else had this and been ok?
Also if they scan or listen for heart beat and find baby ok then is there anything I should ask them to check for that might be causing this? If the baby is fine I don't want to be palmed off and something bad happen later because they missed something like an infection.
Thanks in advance

I had some spotting the week after my 12 week scan.

They're very good at checking where bleeding has come from and in my case they couldn't see it at all. I happen to know that I have a cervical erosion discovered before pregnancy so it could have been from that.

You may find you too have developed one (nothing to worry about and v common in pregnancy) so this could be why you're spotting.

Brown blood isn't as much of a worry as it's old blood it it's good to get checked out and they WILL check you thoroughly. Have you had an internal to check your cervix is closed?

Chances are it'll be fine, loads if woman spot in pregnancy for a reason that can't be explained.

Good luck, I hope you feel reassured after your scan Smile

I had bright red bleeding at 6 weeks without any cramps turned out to be a hemorrhage (blood clot) next to baby was quite large. I'm 13 weeks now and it has gotten smaller but I have been having brown spotting since 6 weeks which is only over the last few days started to stop. There are lots of reasons why women bleed during pregnancy and its quite common so my midwife says. And brown blood is old blood and usually nothing to worry about. But it is scary and best to get checked out. I hope everything is fine for you and your little one xx

Yes, I had spotting around the same time, unfortunately had just flown out on holiday so was paranoid that the flight had caused it and couldn't speak to NHS direct as they said they could only help me in UK!

Ended up in French hospital having a strange 'wand' device with a condom on it ultrasound. Through translation issues I managed to deduce it could have been because of a previous procedure (laser colposcopy for dodgy smear test) causing scarring on cervix, but I think probably just 'one of those things'.

DD was born fine & healthy with no other issues. HTH x

I'm waiting at triage to see a doctor. I've already seen a midwife who found the heartbeat and a good kick to the Doppler. Feeling a lot less worried now of course.
I guess the doctor will check about the bleeding.
Thanks for your replies.
