Ketones

I visited GP today and was diagnosed with a UTI which is what I expected. Apparently I also gave ketones in my urine. GP said i was probably dehydrated but I have been drinking lots and don't feel particularly dehydrated. I am now worried it might be more serious such as diabetes. Any similar experiences? Am I doing my usual and thinking the worst?

I had ketones in my urine a few times when I was pregnant with DS. My mw told me it was because I was not eating enough. I think that was due to the fact that I always did my urine sample first thing in the morning when I woke up and had obviously not eaten anything since the night before. Could this be the same for u perhaps??

You could ask your midwife about a GTT if you're worried.

I have been trying to eat better (and less) as I'm quite overweight. I wouldn't think so little that it would be not enough though. It was this afternoon I got the urine dipped so had ate breakfast and lunch too

I am seeing her for the first time on Monday (i am 15 weeks). I will mention it then. Is that a glucose test camel?

Yes, glucose tolerance test, the earliest they can do it is 16 weeks so I'd mention the ketones. It can do no harm, just no food overnight, a sugary drink and then a blood test. If you are about overweight the chances of gestational diabetes are higher so they may be planning to offer GTT to you at 22ish weeks, 16 weeks is usually for people who've had it before. Regularly having ketones is dangerous though so best to be on the safe side.

I had GD last time, diagnosed at 22 weeks and will be tested at 16 weeks, the week after next, this time. I've blood sugar tested a few times with my old kit and am pretty sure I have it again. If they test you and you do then PM me if you want, it seems that we're bump buddies!

Ketones can be present because of a starvation response as well as a dehydration one. Not commonly known, most go straight to dehydration. It's worth checking that out too.

I will try and drink more water. What the hell I'm never out the bathroom anyway!
Camel - I will do. Hope everything goes well with you
