private toxoplasmosis testing

Apparently, in France pregnant women are tested for toxoplasmosis periodically throughout their pregnancy. This seems quite sensible to me, given that it can be treated in utero.

Has anyone here had private tests done for toxoplasmosis? Do you know a private clinic where you can get it done in London (ideally SW)? The only thing I found was a prenatal check here, which tests for everything and would be too expensive to do repeatedly.

Hi. I had a test done at zita west, but had been to see the midwife there for a general chat anyway, ie you might need to be a client there first.

I had the test to see if I was already immune. another test checks whether you've been exposed more recently. I think I remember something about it not being a brilliantly reliable test though.

It's much more rare in the uk than france, as we don't eat quite so much raw/rare meat! So don't worry about it too much, just cook meat well and don't do the litter tray!

If you are high risk for toxo then you can request it to be done at the booking in appt. France have a higher incidence of toxo I believe, which is probably why they test for it through pregnancy

oh and forgot to say one of the bigger risks is gardening without gloves on (esp if the neighbourhood cat uses your flower beds as a litter tray!) The cat poo has to sit around for a few days before the toxo actually becomes infectious to us so as long as you keep your litter tray spotlessly clean that is less of a risk!

I had mine done at the Women's Wellness Centre (opposite the C&W) on Fulham Road. It's staffed by consultants from the C&W.
I'm sure you could ring and ask if they'd just do toxo, I had my booking in there and it was part of the booking bloods.
