empty gestation sac

I am currently preg again after a mmc in march.
I went for an early scan today hoping for some reassurance that I didn't really get.
I was expecting to be between 7 & 8wks. So then should have seen more than an empty sac and probably even a heart beat.
All they could see was an empty sac which she commented was quite big but thats not necessarily a problem and perhaps my dates are all out so I'm not that far along.
Am going for a scan next week to see if any changes. Does anyone have any experience in this?

Hullo!

A bit crampy with browny staining (tmi) taking it easy, well as easy as you can with a 3 year old! Hot water bottle & duvet day.

How's things with you?

cartoonface · 16/06/2012 11:11

I'm ok. Feel the odd slight cramp. I'm not sure wot normal pregnancy ones feel like though. Still no spotting oranything I keep expecting to see some thou.
I'm going shopping for new carpet and curtains later

I'm glad you have had no spotting or anything, that is good! I have had one successful pregnancy & im still unsure whats "normal" or not, with my ds i had literally mc'ed and then was pg the next month so was never really sure of pg versus mc symptoms..... My other mc was quite sudden, overwhelming painful and lots of bleeding despite only being 5 ish weeks or so.

We were meant to go floor tile shopping today but I actually couldn't think of anything worse! Good luck with the carpet & curtains! Hope that isn't a euphemism of sorts ;-)

cartoonface · 16/06/2012 11:58

Haha. Wish it was. No I quite like shopping for home stuff.
I'd love to let myself think that no spotting is good but maybe my body just hasnt realised yet.
Last time I mc'd it actually didn't hurt but god so much blood. I went to the hosp they had to use forceps to get the clots out. I had spotted on and off thru the whole preg thou. I was around 10weeks maybe 11. But the fetus was tiny they said the size they'd expect for about 6weeks but I'm not sure exactly when it stopped growing or if there was ever a heart beat I guesd they wouldnt have known. I read recently thou that once the fetus stops growing it will shrink at the same rate it would've grown.

Hope the shopping went well, unfortunately I have started another thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/1496941-So-I-think-Im-having-a-miscarriage

Good luck with your scan

mummyfirsttime · 17/06/2012 00:02

I had the exact same situation around the same weeks as you cartoonface just one big empty sac no yolk heartbeat anything with both internal and external scan. HCG was taken on first scan and was high enough (cant remember the number) and they got the result of this within a couple of hours. I had to wait 2 weeks for my next scan which was the worst longest two weeks I have suffered however all was good and I am now 29 weeks and all seems to be going fine so far fingers crossed!

Good luck to you all my thoughts are with you.
xxxxx

cartoonface · 17/06/2012 08:42

It seems a lot of people had to wait 2wks. I hope them doing mine in one week will have made enough difference. I also wish I'd had the bloods done to check my hcg for some sort of indication of Wots happening in there.
Crossing my fingers (please grow please grow). It's really comforting me that after having similarly bad first scans others are getting the positive result we all deserve

Sorry for the hijack cartoon, just really a wee update : so scan 2day showed no heartbeat & hcg was 5914 which wasn't high enough apparently for a viable pg at 7-8 weeks. So booked in for a D&C on 28th but really hoping for nature to take its own natural course before then as I've been staining for 9 days now..... Downside is that we are going away for a few days to a lovely hotel with numerous swimming pools etc next weekend for a few days which I now probably can't advantage of :-(

Really have everything crossed for you cartoon and hope your scan goes smoothly tomorrow. I will keep a wee eye out for your update

Betty x

Don't know if anyones checking up on this. But I've been for my scan. Sac still empty but has grown a bit. There is now an area of bleeding next to it thou. I have another scan next week. The sac is too small to be a definite blighted ovum but hasn't shown enough improvment to be a positive outcome. She thinks this is an unsuccessful pregnancy. I may mc before the scan next week

Hi cartoonface, by the time you read this you will have probably had your scan so i hope it went well. i'm a little late to this but just wanted to mention that my sister had a similar situation - early scan and a seemingly empty sac then she went back a few days later and the found the fetus.

please let us know how you got on
H x

cartoonface · 19/06/2012 14:33
