High Nuchal results - Cvs test

Hi, I had my 12 week scan yesterday and the NT measurement was 8.3 so I have been put at very high risk of the baby having downs syndrome. I am in bits. I am due to have a cvs today, I know it carries a risk but I feel I need to know if the baby has downs so we can prepare. I have two healthy girls and both pregnancies were relatively straightforward so I haven't experienced anything like this before. Anyone been through this? Thanks

Hi jdutch,

I had a cvs with my first DC after a worrying blood test; it was nerve-wracking but not painful. It was many years ago, but I can still remember the relief when the doctor removed the needle and showed us the baby's heartbeat on the screen: he said that the procedure had gone well and the risk of miscarriage was low. However, waiting for the results (which were fine) was hideous. There's nothing you can do but hope for the best.

Please try not to worry too much. There are some wonderful threads on MN about down's children; it might reassure you to have a look at them?

You may get much quicker replies and better info on the antenatal tests and choices so maybe repost over there. good luck, and try not to worry. Easier said than done I know but it is a risk at the moment, not a certainty. thinking of you
