Ok I'll try to keep it breif, with my 1st pregnancy I was sick maybe 3 times, and always in the eve, my 2nd pregnancy I was sick once (I lost this one at 12 wks) and this is my 3rd pregnancy and since last thurs (it's now mon eve) I've been constantly sick and knackered, and I'm hardly peeing and when I do go it's dark. I feel awful and it's nothing like my other 2 pregnancies and I'm starting to think something is wrong. Anyhow I contacted NHS direct who told me to ring my doc and he's given me promethazine 25mg, and I'm to take one tablet when I go to bed and it should stop the sickness so I can get hydrated or so the doc said! I'm just a bit concerned they may cause baby harm!? Has anyone else taken these or similar during early pregnancy!? HELP!

Oh and I'm 7wks, will be 8wks on thurs

Hi how are you feeling?

I had hyperemesis with both my pregnancys!!! Iwas given cyclizine but was so poorly I was hospitalised 5 times and given IV ondansetron.Sad I then spent the rest of my pregnancy on ondansetron tablets. Hope that helps Smile

Promethazine is Phenergan and is perfectly safe, as far as most people are concerned - I've taken it in my first pregnancy and am taking it in this one but I wish I was on as high a dose as you, I'm only on 10mg - it does help a bit but not an awful lot!

It's the first one they will offer you generally speaking. Considered safest option I think.

Hope you are better soon. I am on my third pregnancy and also feel much worse than my other two, am thinking maybe girl...who knows.

I've been prescribed metoclopramide as well (maxolon) and that's pretty good too.

I had stemitil from 8 weeks to 22 weeks. I had hyperemisis and the pills took the edge off the horror of constant vomiting a bit- but not much I'm afraid. The anti sickness pills are safe theses days imo, and helping you to stay hydrated is important for baby.

Sorry you are feeling so bad. Cyclizine and promethazine are usually the anti-nausea meds that get prescribed first because they have been used for so long with no evidence of risk to mother or baby. You being dehydrated is actually much more of a risk and can happen quickly if you're throwing up a lot. Come over to the hyperemesis thread where there are links to loads of info about taking these drugs in pregnancy and how avoid dehydration.

I've been on cyclizine and metoclopramide at max dose since week 5 (first hospitalisation) and ondansetron as well since week 6. 15 weeks now and the baby seems to be fine. A lot more fine than me anyway!
