Finding it hard to eat

Hi,
I'm 15 weeks with my third & this pregnancy is so much different! With the other 2 I could eat loads but this time I'm really struggling. I have a lot of food aversions, for the last few weeks all I've been able to stomach for breakfast is toast. Now it tastes 'funny' so I'm just having smoothies. I have a very small appetite & can finish less than half what I used to be able to. I can't eat little & often because I can't eat at work & only get 1 15 minute break. Today I've managed a pint of fruit smoothie for breakfast, a cup of broccoli soup for lunch & a little fish pie for tea. I've had milk & fresh fruit juice in between but my calorie intake is really low & I've only put on 3lbs so far, that was between weeks 7 & 11 when I could eat loads! Anyone else struggling?

You will be fine, when I was expecting my daughter 31 years ago I lived on water, fruit and not a lot else for 6 months due to sickness, I weighed less at 6 months than I did pre pregnancy, in the last 3 months I managed to slowly regain my appetite, my daughter was born weighing 8 lbs 7 oz and I only had a stone of baby weight to lose, x

Hi debdee, I'm currently 9+1 and am having the same problems, for the past few weeks I've slowly gone off pretty much everything except fruit, pretty sure I'm having a health freak baby! It's constant throughout the day as well, not just in the mornings, and I'm starving but just have no appetite (if that makes sense) as the thought of most foods turns my stomach, and the sight of meat is a definite no no! I've only been sick a couple of times so far and that was mostly just liquids anyway as I can't stomach much food, even bland things like plain pasta or dry crackers!
I've lost a few pounds since I became pregnant which isnt good, I'm looking into getting a pregnancy multivitamin as theres no way I'm getting all the nutrients me and baby need!
I'm just hoping it will end and I'll be able to enjoy all the foods I used to love again :(

You don't really have to worry about nutrients for your baby as your body stores a lot of nutrients and then uses those stores for the baby when you become pregnant. The only person that will suffer is you. I didn't really eat anything in pregnancy until I was about 20ish weeks. I was constantly hungry, but I couldn't stand the smell of anything, any food at all. Don't worry about losing weight unless you are already underweight. Speak to your midwife or GP about it if you are really worried. To be honest, the amount of food and kind of food you said you were able to eat sounds perfectly normal to me. I hope everything gets better for you soon. I know when I was struggling I thought it would never end, but I very slow was able to start eating like normal again after about week 20. I hope everything turns out well for you, good luck.

I don't normally gain much in pg - in fact with DD3 I lost 4lbs (I was 4lbs lighter at term than when I got pg and DD3 was 8lb 10!) and now I am 6m with DD4 I have just lost another 5lbs which I had only just put on so I am a stone less than when I got pg.

Admittedly I am overweight though so I can afford to lose weight when pg, if you are avg. weight or underweight then you really can't afford it so it would be worth speaking to your MW about what's going on (thyroid perhaps?).
