19 weeks and still worrying about movement :-(

I posted about a week ago about this but the situation still seems to be the same.

Basically I think I have felt movement. It feels like muscle twitches, just one at a time. I had one fairly strong one a couple of nights ago. When it happens frequently I feel relaxed and confident it's the baby.

However, I have days when I feel nothing and I panic that a) something is wrong or b) I have made up potential movements in my head.

Is this irregularly normal?

I have my 20week scan a week today and I'm so nervous

hi there - Im 29 weeks and have only felt the baby regularly each day for the last week, movements before then where very sporadic - sometimes I wouldnt feel anything for a week at a time and even then it may not of definately been baby.

if you are concerned though phone the midwife. It will reassure you if nothing else.

Whysoserious · 11/06/2012 18:07

Really, only in the last week? What did movement first feel like for you Signet? I've thought about phoning the midwife but I can almost hear what she would say to be, and I have my scan in a week anyway.

I've just drank a cold fanta and scoffed a Mars bar in the hope that I'd feel something but nope. Just feel sick now Blush

I started to feel small movements like you describe at about 17/18 weeks but didn't feel regular, definite movements until 22/23 weeks.

Whysoserious · 11/06/2012 18:12

Thanks Rubberbandit.

It's so good to have this reassurance Smile

I think the cold drink or sweet thing only works when you have established movements, but im sure someone else will come along with more expereince letting us know if thats right or not. The baby is still very small depending on which way it's lying you might not feel anything yet. I've read so many posts on here where people don't feel movement until 23/24 weeks so there's still a bit of time. I'm sure your baby is fine.

HappyAsASandboy · 11/06/2012 18:23

I didn't really feel anything more than a slight flutter very rarely until about 22 weeks - and I had twins in there Smile

In my case, the midwife said that I couldn't feel much because my placenta was atthe front, so acting like a sort of cushion between the kick and my tummy. When you go for your scan, ask the sonographer where your placenta is.

I hope you get some nice reassuring movements soon, but in the meantime, try not to worry too much Smile

just like funny little bubbles in my knicker line. Even now I feel nothing higher up than where my bump meets my groin except sometimes a little pressure on one side which is the side she is always on. I think I have a really lazy baby.

It may also depend on where baby is lying. My sil is 2 weeks ahead of me and she gets all her movements higher up but when I saw consultant he had a prod and said baby is fine, but she is breech at the moment so all my feelings are really low down.

try not to worry too much (I know its impossible) as weeks go on you will start to feel it a bit more. I was worried a few weeks ao as everyone was saying they could feel their baby at much less weeks than I was.

I also have yet to experience been able to feel them on the outside of my body, or see movement.

EarnestDullard · 11/06/2012 18:32

Movements don't usually start to follow a regular pattern until later, about 28w. At 19w the baby is still small enough that it needs to be in the right place for movements to be felt, so you won't feel every movement. If you've been feeling some movement, you'll probably start to feel more and more in the next few weeks as the baby gets bigger and stronger.

Also, if your placenta is at the front (anterior) of your uterus, that will cushion any movements and you'll feel them less.

Thanks ladies. My word this pregnancy lark is STRESSFUL !!

I felt movements like you describe from 18/19 weeks wasn't sure if baby or not at times. I would go between 3 or 4 days without feeling anything and worried just like you. I am now 23 weeks and feel baby move every day now, but only since 22 weeks, sometimes its just little ripples like before at other times its stronger. My midwife said movements are usually felt from 20-24 weeks and as others have said regular movements come later, so try not to worry too much.

milli2512 · 11/06/2012 18:50

I thought I felt something around the 18 week mark and then nothing again until 21 weeks. Stronger definite movements now, but still sporadic. You may have an anterior placenta (at the front), which means movements are felt later. There's always something to worry about isn't there!

Passmethecrisps · 11/06/2012 19:41

This really is an endless worryfest pregnancy isn't it?

I started getting tiny movements at 17 weeks. However, people I told seemed so astonished that I started to second guess myself and then, obviously, start to worry about it. Mine feels like little muscle twinges which have gradually got more noticeable. Once I felt a strange thing which I can only describe as a swoosh. Felt like it was flipping over. At my scan baby was lying on its side facing out - If that is its preferred position it might explain why I feel movement earlier than 'normal'. Similarly, if a baby is on its back or lying facing inside you won't feel much.

I normally feel movement in the evenings when sitting relaxing. However, on Saturday I felt nothing and it was awful. I worried all day. My sensible head says I am lucky to have felt anything anyway so one day without means nothing but . . . Well, you all know!

Whysoserious · 11/06/2012 20:49

I had a squirm the other day too passmethecrisps. Lasted about 10secs and gave me time to put my hand on my tummy and I felt it from the outside. Got so excited. That was nearly a week ago now and there's been nothing like that since Sad

I just feel 'muscle spasms' that happen really quickly and then are gone straight away. Usually in the eve.

I am 19 weeks and I feel nothing. I can however say that 6 days ago all was fine, and will likely be fine again when I get my 20 week scan next tuesday.

Sophie2710 · 12/06/2012 15:51

Hi all,
I'm 18 weeks today and first felt baby about a week ago. It feels different a lot of the time and I also worry if it is actually the baby but pretty sure it is :-D
However I don't feel it everyday so don't think you should worry about this until you feel it a lot of the time and more often.
2 weeks until 20 week scan and overly excited!

shellybop · 12/06/2012 15:55

I only felt the slightest of movements until i was about 23 weeks and then BAM- all the time!! I was absolutely desperate to feel him moving regularly and obsessed about it from 18-22 weeks, and whenever i did feel something i wasn't sure if it was wind or baby! Now i'm 26 weeks and there is no mistaking it. easy to feel from both inside and out!

Velo · 12/06/2012 20:25

I felt nothing at all until 18 weeks and then so faint I couldn't really be sure. I was eating spicy food, drinking cold drinks etc to see if that would get the little one to be active but to no avail. When I had my 20 week scan I could see lots of movement but couldn't feel anything so that reassured me a bit. Now at 24 weeks I feel a bit more wriggling and the odd kick but no regular pattern.

cbd · 12/06/2012 21:26

hi I'm 20 weeks on 2nd preg. I still can't feel any proper movements but looking at the last 3 scans i've had for this Lo, it looks unlikely for me to feel much movement during pregnancy. this is because the Lo is still curled up in a ball. all 4 limbs are tucked under the body, which i am now carrying in the pelvis area. MW's have said if LO dont uncurl soon they dont know if i will feel anything. I know it can be abnormal not too feel anything but this time, but your not on your own. keeping calm and relaxed with help with any motions from LO. But i's wait til your further on in preg before you start noting down baby movements properly hun.
