Today is my first day of mat leave. What should I do?

If today was my first day of maternity leave I would stay in my PJs all day and nap on and off. Do nothing! (35+4 and still at work :()

PickleSarnie · 11/06/2012 11:48

Sleep, sleep and sleep some more.

Under no circumstances do any of the following no matter how much weird nesting instincts try to make you:

  • clean skirting boards
  • rearrange cupboard contents alphabetically
  • Vacuum front doors because they "look a bit dusty"
  • fspend hours finding teeny, tiny marks on walls and cleaning them

Sleep well!!

GnocchiNineDoors · 11/06/2012 11:49

Watch a whole movie start to finish. I miss this.

And have a duvet day Grin

AlpinePony · 11/06/2012 11:58

Make sure you've got nappies/wipes/baby clothes because tomorrow could be the day! Wink

I spent my one and only day of my first maternity leave lying in the sun and swimming... the following day my life changed forever and I've never been able to hear/stay awake through an entire film since!

melonribena · 11/06/2012 12:19

It's my first day as well and it's feeling very strange! I've done a bit of cleaning but am now settling infront of the tv! Hope you ate enjoying your day. Smile

melonribena · 11/06/2012 12:19

are!!

AKMD · 11/06/2012 12:21

Monday - sleep
Tuesday - go swimming
Wednesday - buy more baby-related tat
Thursday - make popcorn and watch favourite box-set
Friday - go to yoga

QuietNinjaCorgi · 11/06/2012 12:23

First day of my mat leave I queued up for an hour and a half for a John barrowman book signing. Blush I wouldn't recommend doing that if you have severe spd. So I go with sleep all day Grin

gardenpixies32 · 11/06/2012 12:38

Oh, lucky you!

Sleep, watch crap on tv, drink tea, chat on the phone, sleep some more, read.

9 weeks to go for me. Seems ages away!

Florin · 11/06/2012 13:21

My first official day of maternity leave was last Wednesday but dh was around last week so wasn't quite the same, today is my first day home alone.
So far I have had sitting room carpet fitted, I have put back all the little bits that I can into the room but can't wait until dh gets back and puts back the furniture so it looks like a proper room. I have sorted odd sock collection out and found lots of pairs, cleaned kitchen, done a couple of loads of washing and polished the brass. Just having lunch then this afternoon I am going to walk up to the post office to post a couple of things then nap and then head to the supermarket. It's lovely being home and being able to get jobs done. We are normally so busy it's so hard fitting household chores in to our normal routine. Going to try and make sure I nap each day though so don't over do it before baby arrives.

theressomethingaboutmarie · 11/06/2012 13:52

I feel so envious! I have 9 weeks to go and am counting down.

OTTMummA · 11/06/2012 15:36

Do nothing, have a nice long bath/shower, put some fresh comfy pjs/lounge wear on make yourself something yummy to eat and watch a movie.
I started my ML at the end of may, and have been so busy i haven't had a proper Duvet day yet, i may have to schedule one in soon!

PrincessWatermelon · 11/06/2012 15:57

Ooo...a duvet day sounds blissful. I'm on ML, but DH is around as he was made redundant. He's being v useful and decorating, but its so not restful for me! He starts his new job the week I'm due, so I'm praying baby is late so I get some peace and quiet!

Piemistress · 11/06/2012 15:57

On my first day I plan on doing nothing but watch DVDs and eat S&V crisps!

After that though I feel like i've loads of stuff to do ie/ batch cook and stock freezer, clean, set up baby stuff and get clothes/nappies etc looked out (all still stored at my mum's house just now!!)

I'll only have a week off though inbetween starting mat leave and my CS date

tiredmumma · 11/06/2012 16:05

I did my jobs early morning and got/borrowed a stash of DVD's, got in bed and chilled. Slept all afternoon as well.

Also had a daily 4 fingered kit kat which I was addicted to

ellesbell · 11/06/2012 17:08

Book in for a pedicure or pregnancy massage and then spend the afternoon watching movies or reading :)

signet2012 · 11/06/2012 18:21

I have my time planned already and im not going off for 4 weeks yet.

I have a list as long as my arm of odd jobs to do in the house.
I am going to buy and watch flash foward box set as I missed the last two episodes but really enjoyed the series.
I am going to sleep. Sleep oh did I say sleep>
Catch up with friends that work odd hours.
Pack my hospital bag
Sort the nursery
Buy some stuff
Batch cook

In reality I will probably mumsnet alot. Sleep. Eat. Bath. Read kindle.

Birdiegirl · 11/06/2012 20:05

My first day of Maternity Leave was Friday 1st june. I ended up going into labour at 3am at 38+4 and had gorgeous baby daughter at 4pm. So make the most of it while u can. Relax and put your feet up.

Piemistress · 12/06/2012 23:10

My first day plans of watching box sets have been scuppered as Ds has just got chicken pox!

theressomethingaboutmarie · 13/06/2012 08:34

With DD, my first day of maternity leave was due to be the 21st of September. She was born at midday on the 21st of September. I echo other posters who say relax, enjoy and make the most of it Grin
