got to go see doctor on Monday morning.

I am sure I have gestational diabetes.

The midwife told me yesterday that the baby is 3 weeks biger than it should be. I have been having increased thirst. My mum and dad have late onset diabetes (they are both over 50).

Didn't give e results when she rang just said - doctor wants to discuss them with you.

Oh Helsi, sorry that you have to wait till Monday to find out. I do hope that if you do have GD then it is a mild intollerance not major insulin dependant type. I don't know whether its different where you are or the same as South Wales because here if you have a high GD level on testing they phone you up straight away and take you in to see a consultant. Obviously they are not over worried if they think you can wait till Monday. Fingers crossed for you, let us know how you get on.

Oh, I'm sorry, Helsi.

I had GD and felt very tearful about it to begin with, but lots of others on here have had the same and Hoxtonchick in particular was very supportive.

I controlled mine with my diet. You'll be given a sugar-testing meter thingy and do pinprick blood tests every day (several times to begin with). It doesn't hurt - the only thing I found hard about it was remembering to do them!

It's basically low GI that you need to eat - lots of whole food, no processed stuff.

I lost half a stone in a fortnight when I was 35-37 weeks pg and felt HEAPS better - I'd been having trouble sleeping, huge thirst, felt knackered all the time, etc.

See if you can see the doctor sooner - it'll set your mind at rest. Does your hospital have a diabetes midwife? Mine did and she was great.

Hi all,

I had to go to the hospital last night for pains in abdomen so they wanted to check me over. All is ok with baby and the midwife actually looked on the pc and my GTT results were negative she said. Thats a weight off my mind!

Glad to hear it, Helsi - and that the baby's OK too. Good luck with the rest of your pg.

so pleased for you Helsi!! What a relief, now you can get on with the last couple of months without that hanging over you

HELLO ALL,
I AM 10WKS PREGNANT WITH MY 3RD BABY AND HAVE JUST BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH GD. I DEVELOPED GD AT 24WKS DURING MY LAST PRENANCY 2YRS AGO AND WAS INJECTING INSULIN 4 TIMES A DAY,I WAS SCANED EVERY 2WKS TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE SIZE OF THE BABY. I WAS INDUCED AT 37WKS AND AFTER AN EMERGENCY C-SECTION MY SECOND SON ARRIVED WEIGHING 9LB 3OZ-QUITE A SIZE CONSIDERING MY ELDEST WAS 7LB 2OZ AT 38WKS!
I SEE A CONSULTANT ON TUESDAY WHICH IS WHEN I WILL PROBABLY BEGIN DAILY INSULIN INJECTIONS.
