In the last couple of days y feet have really swollen up with pitting edema and I have also noticed pitting edema in my legs. Is this something I should be concerned about? I'm 31 weeks.

Many thanks

I am not sure about during pregnancy, but in 'normal' young people the doctor would like to take a look.
Could be something cardiac or could be an infecton. Give your midwife or doctors surgery a ring.

Yes, you need your blood pressure and urine checked. Call delivery suite for more specific advice. I had this with first pregnancy and all was fine. Induced for pregnancy induced hypertension with the second. Good luck.

Have you spoken to your MW? She may want to check your blood pressure and urine. Pitting edema can be associated with pre eclampsia so please get it check if you have not done so already.

you definitely need to be checked out at some point, have you been busier over the last couple of days? i saw the mw regarding something similar last week, and id had swollen legs for about a week that didn't go down with resting, i was also having headaches which is why i saw my mw, swollen feet can be common in pregnancy due to the increase in fluid in your body, but can be a sign of something else. give the mw office a call and see what they suggest im sure you will be ok :)

Yes! Go & get checked. This (especially pitting oedema as opposed to "just" having swollen feet & legs) can be a sign of pre-eclampsia so they'll want to check your blood pressure & urine.

Get yourself checked ASAP.

You really need to contact your midwife today. Sure it will be fine but it does need checking. Good luck.

I have had this in my left leg/ foot only since about 29 weeks. Very odd. It is probably a third bigger than my right leg and I now wear one of those compression socks all the time to keep swelling down.

Ive had mine checked out as I'm under a consultant for this pregnancy. It CAN be a sign of pre-eclampsia, and is especially worrying if combined with swelling in the face/ hands and headaches.

Please see your doctor or midwife to get it checked out. They will want to test your urine for protein and your blood pressure to rule pre-eclampsia out. Both were fine for me so I'm just chalking it up as another one of those lovely pregnancy symptoms that no one talks about!

Yes, another one saying to get it checked out.

I had pitting odema in my feet and it was the 1st sign of pre-eclampsia for me. The high blood pressure and protein in urine came a few days later.

Just noticed that the thread was from yesterday morning - hope you got a check up from your MW. How was your BP and protein levels? Hope everything was ok.

RainbowTurtle · 11/06/2012 00:19

You need to have your bp checked ASAP.
