Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
exexe · 09/08/2012 10:29

yay for sickness.

Not yay for my gtt results though. I got a call from the clinic to say my results were high at 7.5 and I need a follow up :(
I can't go to an appointment til another 3 weeks. I've posted a thread to see if anyone can give any advice. Fingers crossed its not too bad a result. According to internet its not. I'll just keep an eye on my diet and stick to low sugar and low carb for a while and then see what the results are like when I do have my follow up.

Hpbp · 09/08/2012 13:27

Waouh, ladies you have been busy on Mumsnet, not sure I will be able to catch up although I have been away only for a day or two !

Welcome Nosleep, I am impressed by your tenacity, hope the MS will leave you alone soon so that you can enjoy this pg

Exexe sorry about the GTT results, hopefully if you monitor your diet it will go down, I have no experience of high sugar level but I am sure you will find lots of answers and shared experience on MN

LRM, Fjord, Knotty, you must feel so relieved and happy with the scan results, and the baby's kicks, I am very happy for you 3

VQ how are you feeling ? have they taken off your cast yet ?

Midget, it must be so exciting to attend the Games, I wish I could go too like Exexe, but I did not try to get tickets as my due date was 27/7... Maybe another time I will manage ! when DC are 20 yo and I am an elderly woman (because at 41, I don't feel old at all!)

Seaside, how is the house hunting going ? anything interesting on the market ?

Somewhere, it is funny how we wait for any symptom of pg, don't we ? sending you lots of positive thoughts and MS :)

AFM all is good, BFing is going well, the hard bit is night time, I feel terrible to let DH give a bottle of expressed milk, he is back to work and I am not, DS1 is on hols so I can sleep until 10am if I wanted to with Anastasia but I tried to give the bottle to her though and she would not take it ! funny, no ? she prefers the breast even if it is the same milk. TBH my boobs are so big and so full sometimes that I'd rather spend 45 minutes at night feeding her than give her a quick bottle. Besides, when she cries, I leak milk from both sides. Panic, I have as much laundry to wash as she does, help !!! I found out that Anastasia needs burping as well, and she wees and pooes after each feed. We are going to spend a fortune on nappies, I can tell you !

Empty tummy starts to decrease, still wearing maternity trousers and skirts but it is much better than a week ago. Have started also gentle pelvic floor exercices, just enough to get the bladder, womb and instestins back at their initial place. At the end of Sept, I will start working one to one with a MW on the pelvic floor itself as I already know mine is very weak.

I have not read a lot re parenting books. I needed the practical advices from What to expect in the first year but that was it. Then later on, when DS1 was around 16 months, I read on potty training. And I found Baby led breast feeding quite useful. But again, instincts, sixth sense, I'd rather rely on these.

And most importantly, share experience but do not listen to Mums with perfect babies, who sleep as soon as they are 1 week old, who eat like a horse, who walk, talk and play the piano by the time they are 6 months... I know, I am being sarcastic but some people are very prone to comparison.

I am going to hang on a litlle bit more on this thread ladies. Who is the next graduate ?

ValiumQueen · 09/08/2012 14:49

Just waiting to see the orthopaedic surgeon the noo! Hoping this bugger will come off.

exexe my Mum bought me that book yesterday. Have not looked at it yet, but I do generally like her stuff. Bugger about the sugar, but it is borderline, so if you are GOOD then hopefully diet alone will sort it. It can be anxiety provoking, as none of us want anything to be wrong, but it could be a whole lot worse.

bytheseaside · 09/08/2012 15:28

hpbp - so glad it sounds like you are doing really well! Doesn't sound like you get any sleep though ...

exexe what a pain, I think you can do a lot with no-sugar diet, though? Seems a bit bad to make you wait for 3 weeks for proper advice. In my area you can have phone advice from registrar on labour ward, if your midwife can't help.

somewhere I don't like strong smells at all right now and my nose is super-sensitive! Car-exhausts particularly yuk.

midget thanks for your antenatal story - helps to known we are right to challenge the orthodoxy sometimes... glad you didn't follow such terrible advice!

LRM terrible uniform situation!! Oh the humiliations ....

Well, still no home for me ... but I'm so sleepy today I don't care. Apparently despite mainlining spatone, my iron is still too low, so I'm trying to eat loads of lamb and lentils - may finally help me put on some pregnancy weight.

ValiumQueen · 09/08/2012 17:07

Cast off. Moon boot on. More comfy, but still cannot drive, but at least I will be able to do the school run, even if it takes me an hour! I can take it off for bed and shower YAY!

Hpbp · 09/08/2012 17:31

VQ enjoy the shower without the cast ! Glad you re on the mend

ValiumQueen · 09/08/2012 17:34

It will be a darn sight easier having a shag too Grin

exexe · 09/08/2012 19:47

What a relief VQ! It must make such a difference - in all aspects of your life! Grin Good luk with the book. It gave me a bit of structure and reassurance when everything seemed overwhelming.

Hpbp you sound like youre doing great! Please do hang around! Not sure about next graduate but I'm prob due around Oct 14. Will have a date at 36 weeks.

Bytheseaside Sorry you still haven't a home. Keep trying. Have orange juice with your spinach and greens. Apparently that helps with the iron absorption.

I hope my GTT tests are rubbish. The fasting reading was 7.5 and the 2nd reading was 4.5. My gp friend says it makes no sense and I should get retested as they may be the wrong way round. There was a trainee there yesterrday and they did misplace my form when I went back so maybe the worry is for nothing? Then I worried that maybe they missed a 1 and that my second reading is actually 14.5 eek!
I'm trying to get hold of my midwife to see if she can follow it up.

Oh well, I need to sort out my diet and exercise anyway.

ValiumQueen · 09/08/2012 20:43

Those results make no sense! Deffo follow them up.

DS should arrive around 25th Oct.

somewherebecomingrain · 09/08/2012 23:35

Valiumqueen that's the important thing, the shag, glad to see you've got your priorities in place Grin

i have totally overshot on the morning sickness cause I think i'm actually ill with some kind of sub-norovirus thing. it's not too bad but it's cramping my style in terms of my communion with my morning sickness. i want to feel that hgc sickness! not the viral kind! its interfering with the frequency!

lying in bed feeling rough. a strange sensation two kinds of sickness. i can still feel the MS below the viral thing.

have hardly eaten today but am keeping my folic acid down so fingers crossed.

good luck with your GTT exexe it sounds like it could all calm down. it's good to stop eating sugar anyway but i know that's not the point. a friend had that and it was all ok
xxx

Hpbp · 10/08/2012 08:50

VQ, I like the way you think !
Exexe, let us know about the GTT, finger crossed they did not read correctly in the first place and the results are much lower.
Somewhere, hope you get rid of this viral thing soon

Nothing to report on my side. Thinking about expressing milk today as breast is really tender. This is DH's last day in the Parisian office today, from Sunday he will be commuting only on week ends to see us for at least 3 months... I am having second thoughts about staying at my Mum's but DH travels a lot during the week so I just don't know....

FjordMor · 10/08/2012 08:52

VQ - yay! great news about the cast.

somewhere sorry to hear you're so poorly. Double whammy of sickness poor thing. I always find Coca Cola easiest to keep down. Wishing you well soon!

knottyhair they were 90% sure mine was a girl at 20 weeks too and later scans have proved 100%. You're one step ahead of us having a name already though; and a lovely one at that! (I have no idea how to do hair ;))

Well, I'm actually in the doc's surgery in the middle of my GTT test right now. exexe, VQ & anyone else going through it, I can report that I had to imbibe the 'icing sugar sludge'; 2 cups of the bloody stuff & nearly barfed it back up! Pre-bloods were fine (the lab in doc's processes stuff immediately here) and I feel fine after an hour, despite an extremely hard uncomfortable chair & only having had about 2 hours sleep. VQ - I can totally empathise with the horror of having to do this with MS. Kudos... exexe - check out the low GI guidelines. I found the diet great when I was trying to balance PCOS & it's a great resource for carbs you can eat without disrupting your blood sugar. Refined sugar's out though so my ice cream/sorbet habit will have to go Sad.

Hpbp - enjoying your updates of life with baby Anastasia. Not sure who the next graduate is; there's a glut of us due early-mid October. Is anyone before that?

Midget - thanks for your advice re GD. You're totally right of course but it's easy to fear the worst. Hope you're enjoying all your Olympic trips! Every time I'm watching now I find myself looking for a little pregnant woman up in the crowd :) You're so right about some scaremongering midwives though. I feel lucky in some ways that all the healthcare professionals I've had anything to do with here have been very 'oh it's just a little thing; you'll be fine'. I'm glad your induction experience was not that bad. I expect at least several of us will end up on that kind of birth pathway.

Half an hour to go... :) someone will be treating herself to the biggest breakfast after this...

exexe · 10/08/2012 09:17

Somewhere sorry you're feeling ill. The morning sickness is bad enough without all the other stuff. Poor you.

Fjord good luck with your test. Hopefully you'll be fine. That sludge sounds revolting. I've dug out a low gi book that I have at home. It looks fairly doable. My problem is the renovations at the moment and not being able to use a proper kitchen.

I've still not been able to hold of the midwife.....

FjordMor · 10/08/2012 10:34

Sad not looking too good. Apparently post-sugar sludge result was 'a bit high' (that seems to be Norwegian health-speak for 'worryingly high' as everything is understated). Will have to wait for a hospital analysis result on Monday but think I'm probably looking at GD Sad. The doctor I saw gave me a bunch of info leaflets (conveniently in Norwegian) about GD...

Well well...it's a long walk for me and take my low GI book shopping (DP will have to dispose of the remaining chocolate and sorbet in the fridge). Could really do without the drama on top of everything else. Just praying the 2nd viewing on my flat this weekend yields an offer of the not insulting kind and that at least my big bubba doesn't have to make an appearance more than a few weeks early (I need more time!! So much to do!!).

Off to console my grump with...um...with...

...a slice of wholegrain bread? Sad

exexe - do you have clarification on your strange result yet?

exexe · 10/08/2012 11:20

Fjord sympathies.
I don't have any clarification yet. I called up the clinic and asked them to recheck the results or to redo as its a stupid result.
They said they'd call me later.

I posted a thread asking for diet help here. I got some good advice if you want to check it out.

ValiumQueen · 10/08/2012 11:30

There are worse things fjord and it usually goes post delivery. Just don't get too many newborn clothes, go for 0-3 mths, and be prepared for them to want to bring baby a bit earlier. You will both be ok Smile

FjordMor · 10/08/2012 13:12

Thanks VQ Smile. You're right of course. It could be pre-eclampsia - that would be more scary. We have been given some newborn size clothes - which is a shame.
Guess I just meant I don't need another thing to be anxious about with the arrival of the baby; to add to inadequate home environment, no money, work or maternity pay and a mum who isn't yet a legitimate citizen in the country she will be a national of. We're working on all of the above but it had been a relief that I didn't have to particularly focus on the delivering part of it all :-/.

And thanks for the thread exexe. Some good advice there. I think I'll be sticking to low GI guidelines as many of them suggested. A dietician who treated a lot of diabetic patients (type II non insulin) at my old hospital said it's recommended by the diabetic health community now. Allows certain kinds of bread, pasta & rice (which is a huge relief to me Smile). Meanwhile DP has suggested a walk later and now have to go and translate this info the doctor gave me...

exexe · 10/08/2012 13:21

Fjord I know its a pain. I don't even have a proper kitchen so I'm finding it difficult. I'm doing stuff like covent garden soups with chickpeas chucked in.

Good to hear you're positive about it. It will be good for us Smile

ValiumQueen · 10/08/2012 13:28

I certainly didnt mean to be unsympathetic, and your baby may well be 7lber, but generally babies are bigger if you have GD. You may also go into labour in plenty of time, but especially as you are older, they may be less keen to let you go overdue. You are still the one in charge though, and can decline interventions. I think you are very brave, and doing a really good job. It is a shame they do not have leaflets in English.

bytheseaside · 10/08/2012 14:12

Oh Fjord how annoying. But we believe in you - you can do this, and baby will be fine! Big shame about the sorbet, though.

Well... I think we have found a new home: its nice, not perfect, but we'd only be renting so as long as it works for a year or two, I think it would be fine. I'm a bit worried that its near a busy road, having enjoyed clean seaside air for years - hope its not too bad for the baby... Did anyone else hear that radio 4 report about diesel fumes and horrible chest infections in little babies? How scary!! Also, please tell me I'm not mad to move at nearly 8 months pregnant. What if BP goes through the roof / I get PE / baby comes early? Aargh! Just finding somewhere seems to have taken all my (limited) strength and left me napping at every opportunity. Well we kind of have to move now, as we handed in our notice. And we will be so much nearer DPs work, so we will have him home more with us. I think its mainly just that moving is really unsettling me, just at a time when I need stability - not like me, really - I've always loved change! I need to stop worrying and go & sit in the garden with an icecream ... (sorry to rub it in fjord and exexe)

ValiumQueen · 10/08/2012 14:17

bytheseaside will you name change when you move? You will cope fine. It will be a challenge, yes, and not ideal, but baby could be two weeks late! Nobody knows what the future holds, and hopefully you will have plenty of help with the move. What flavour ice cream?

ValiumQueen · 10/08/2012 14:18

Easier with baby in than out too.

exexe · 10/08/2012 14:37

Bytheseaside great you found a place! That report sounds scary but at least youre renting so can move out if you think its really bad.

I chased up the clinic and asked them about the results again and told them I'd spoken to a gp and the results don't make sense but they insist those are the correct result. Really odd.
Anyway they suggested I go in again next wednesday to just do a fasting test again and see what the result is this time.

ValiumQueen · 10/08/2012 14:52

I bet you are looking forward to that exexe. Any muppet can see those results are wrong, unless you are an alien or something?
