what to wear in labour...eeek

This has most likely been done to death so apologies..... but what exactly should I wear for labour?

I'm not really one for the full buff, but no doubt things might change but what exactly do I wear to start with at least? I shouldn't have watched OBEM at all but some of the women on there look frankly ridiculous... I am planning on going to hospital. Can anyone suggest where you get something suitable?

TIA

Comfy long top or nighty? I wore what I was wearing with both. With Dd I was in the shopping centre when my waters went (two months early) and didn't have the chance to change and with Dd I was already in pjs so I just changed my bottom half before proceeding to the hospital as u was quite soggy :o as long as its comfy then you should be fine. Something cotton. Labour is HOT

I bought a cheap cotton nightie that I wore for DD1 that was easily hiked up but covered my dignity at the start when I was wandering around.

Managed to get the blood stains out of it (sorry, don't mean to freak you out!) so thought I would wear it for DD2 as well but never got the chance as things went a bit quicker so I just had my t-shirt on that I came in wearing.

Bibulus · 07/06/2012 17:06

I planned to wear a long nightie from mothercare

In the event I spent the whole time wandering round in a t-shirt with my fanny and arse exposed

Once you are in established labour you honestly do not give a shit what you are wearing!

AceOfBase · 07/06/2012 17:06

Ds was in the centre sorry. Phone is a blardy know it all :o

Cheekychops84 · 07/06/2012 17:08

Usually u just wear a nightdress ? Not site what else you could wear to b honest? With dd1 she was so quick I had her just wearing my top lol

goingmadtrying · 07/06/2012 17:08

Hi I wore an old nightie for my second, cant remember for my first Blush I chucked the nightie away as it was covered in blood and goo, I'm planning on wearing something I dont mind chucking away again this time :)

DesperateHousewife21 · 07/06/2012 17:20

I never gave it much thought when preg with ds and ended up going to hosp in a pair of maternity track suit bottoms and a white vest top. Obv the bottoms came off during labour but the top stayed and had to hoik up bra and top for skin to skin with ds.

I had a nightie and massive tshirts in my hosp bag but didn't think to change as it was quite quick.

I'm preg with dc2 and will try to go into hosp in a comfier top this time!

ladygagoo · 07/06/2012 17:35

I think that's my problem... I don't have any old nighties :)

Might have to shop for a throw-away cheapie in a dark colour then

thanks for the tips

I wore a cheap dark nightie.

Helenh90 · 07/06/2012 17:43

For dd1 I never really thought about it so I ended up wearing my vest top and one of those hospital gowns that opens at the back so my arse was on show the whole time (not that u really care when you're in labour!)
For dd2 I wore one of my old nighties, it didn't really get anything on it so I've kept it incase me and dp decide we want any more dc's in the future Grin

OhNoMyFanjo · 07/06/2012 17:45

Both times just ended up in the top I arrived in.

ithaka · 07/06/2012 17:48

An old denim shirt of my husbands, as I recall...

DaPrincessBride · 07/06/2012 17:48

I was armed with primark cheapy nightie. Ended up butt naked and only noticed afterwards Grin so long, dignity!

thegreylady · 07/06/2012 17:51

My dd took one of my OS nightshirts :)

ItsMyLastOne · 07/06/2012 17:54

I bought a beach type dress to wear but never got round to putting it on. I wore leggings and a long vest top. It had been a long early labour so I'd just put on what was comfy for being at home. Then when there was a lot of er, inspecting going on I took the leggings and knickers off and stayed in my vest.

It doesn't really matter as long as you're comfy and whatever you're wearing isn't getting in the way too much.

MissCoffeeNWine · 07/06/2012 18:00

I wore knickers, jeans, a T-shirt and an underwired bra until the last twenty minutes. When I took the jeans off. Then I put them back on about an hour later. With fresh knickers.

noobydoo · 07/06/2012 18:02

As you will see from OBEM - once you are in labour you won't give a toss what you look like.

tittytittyhanghang · 07/06/2012 18:08

i had a water birth with DS2 so just wore a bikini top the only time ever as my bikini days are well and truely over. DS1 i just had on a vest top and was bottom half naked.

Makingchanges · 07/06/2012 18:13

I bought a cheap cotton nightie - I actually wore nothing but a pair of socks.

Wants3 · 07/06/2012 18:28

Cheap nightie and warm socks! I hate having cold feet.

milli2512 · 07/06/2012 18:31

I reckon a trip to Primark is in order for a cheap nightie and some big granny pants for afterwards!!

DanyTargaryen · 07/06/2012 18:35

I ended up stark naked Blush

ITryToBeZenBut · 07/06/2012 18:35

I wore a large t-shirt thing from new look - cheap, cotton and loose. Matched to the joggers I wore into hospital - token attempt at fashion :-)

Wanted nothing constrictive on me and didn't take me long to get naked despite thinking I wouldn't. I wanted nothing touching my skin in labour :-)

Alligatorpie · 07/06/2012 20:24

T- shirt and bra with dd.
This time I have packed a button down shirt that is dh's as he won't be there. I also have a tankini in case I make it to the birth pool.

Florin · 07/06/2012 22:00

I went to primark at the weekend and bought a cheap large nightie-it's actually quite pretty but I am not a nightie person so had nothing to wear otherwise. Was going to steal an old shirt from dh but realised at about 32 weeks that his slim fit shirts were really not going to work! Also treated myself to a couple of nice (but cheap) pj's for after so I feel nice and as they are cheap if I bleed all over them don't feel bad chucking them away. Haven't worked out what to wear for birthing pool yet. I think I will just strip off and get in but dh is being about prudish about it and says I should take a bikini. To keep him happy I will shove one in the bag although will have to see if it fits first!
