Is it really a girl...??

Our third and last beautiful baby is apparantly going be a girl!! :)

We already have 2 lovely ds's and I never imagined we would blessed with another baby let alone a girl!
We had the scan last Friday and still we are walking around in a daze.
It's also going to be the first mixed sex family on my Dh's side for 3 generations! Hence why its so exciting :)

But, I know that this is all only about 80% chance of it being pink...despite my lovely sonographers attempts at pointing out the 3 very obvious lines that mean girl bits.
I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else had the sudden panic attacks wondering....what if it grows boy bits??!! Confused
Should I buy pink stuff yet...? Or wait til she is here?
Arrrggghhhh so frustrating yet exciting to the max!!!

Sorry for the waffle just had to get it off my chest Grin

Congrats :) Thanks

We are the same, only expecting DC1. Sonographer showed us the 3 white lines and said, "Don't sue me if I'm wrong!" Consultant said that sounds fairly conclusive but I have read stories online where the boy bits were just growing a bit slowly so we haven't bought any pink yet! :)

Oh - now that's interesting to hear what the sonographer said in relation to pointing out girl's bits.

We were told "see that ridge" (um, yeah kind of) "that tells me you're having a boy".

In my mind, a girl could have a ridge too, so I asked how sure she was about that. She said pretty sure. I even made a joke about being 50-50% sure, but she didn't laugh (spoil sport).

So, three lines or a ridge? I guess it makes sense to me.

twizzlestix · 09/06/2012 11:06

This is my PFB and we've been told girl. I was VERY shocked as was convinced I was having a boy, but I've finally got my head around it now 8 weeks later!)3 lines were pointed out to me on both my 20 and 22 week scan (had a repeat as she was being awkward!) my sonographer was pretty confident! Having a 4D scan today so we'll know for sure :D

I've tried avoiding pink and brought red, lime, purple, orange etc just in case but have literally been inundated with secondhand pink clothes from friends so...you can try to hold off on the girly stuff 'just in case' but as soon as others know... :D

In the same situation as you, OP. We have two sons and we've been shown the three ridges on the scan and told we are probably expecting a girl. But I can't help wondering how much faith we can put in it. This scan was at 22 weeks (because like twizzle's baby, this baby was being awkward position-wise too) so I guess the bigger the baby, the better the view?!

Either way, we have lots of boy clothes (for a tomboy girl!) or offers of lots of girl clothes from friends and family. Wonder if we could scrape enough together for a posh scan..... Grin .....off to google prices....

Hmm, the woman next to me in hospital was definitely having a girl who was expected to come in at about 9lb.

She had a 6lb boy.

Her friend was told she was having a boy...and had a girl. Fortunately they were going to swap all the new stuff they'd bought with each other, rather than traipsing it all back to the shop...

iwantbrie · 09/06/2012 12:04

I was told when pg with DD1 she was a girl, we still did't buy anything girly till we saw with our own eyes!
DD2 I had an amnio and the lab sexed the baby for us so we knew she was 100% definitely a girl, we bought a little bit of pink.. :) .
I seem to remember reading somewhere that girls 'bits' (labia I think) can swell up and be mistaken for a penis, thats what made me a little sceptical.

Spiritedwolf · 09/06/2012 15:42

Congrats xx

We aren't finding out the sex of our baby. You could always take the stance that we've taken, that babies can wear any colour of the rainbow, even if she's a girl she doesn't need to be restricted to pink, and there's nothing wrong with a baby boy wearing pink either.

Harryan · 09/06/2012 18:06

Well it's about a week now since we had the scan and im actually finding it quite easy to steer clear of the pink stuff!
Only pink thing I have succumbed to is the Moses basket cover but I have kept the blue one just incase. Smile

I'd live a 4d scan but can't afford that so we will be patient and excited Smile

Had 4D scan confidently confirmed team pink but guess will have to wait and see to be 100% sure ;)

welshdragon01 · 09/06/2012 18:14

Congratulations on your news. Enjoy your little girl. We are expecting our 2nd. We are hopefully finding out on Monday. Have you experienced anything different with this pregnancy?

gnocci · 09/06/2012 19:43

We had a 4d scan 6 weeks later to confirm!

Harryan · 10/06/2012 14:32

Oh wow, pop back and let us know won't you! Smile

Yes weirdly this pregnancy has been so different to the boys!
With the other two my bump was huge and sticky outy...this one, I have shown a lot quicker (due to being 3rd I think) but it's quite a neat round little bump :)
Hardly and morning sickness with the last two, but this one...oh dear god it's awful!! I'm 22 weeks now and it's just come back threefold! Sad
But the intriguing part is that with my boys I craved crisps, cheese and loads of salty stuff. This time it has been cake (any type) chocolate and haribo all the way!!! Grin

A few of my friends that also have girls said their cravings were similar Smile
