Just had a show, but was it also my waters?

I'm pretty show I just had a show - tmi, but bloody snotty stuff. But there was also quite a lot of fluid. Enough to totally soak my knickers, but not enough to go through my linen trousers. Would that have been my waters or would there be more fluid if it was waters?

Also is there anything I shouldn't now do now I've had a show? Ie. baths? Swimming? I'm assuming it's still ok to go to my reflexology in half an hour?!

That's not the whole lot, no - there will be a lot more!

But it might have been part of it. I think you need to ring the midwife just to let them know - put on a pad and if they ask you to come in they will test it to see if it's waters.

There's just a small risk of infection once they start to go, so worth telling MW and see what they say.

SpottyTeacakes · 06/06/2012 17:06

I would just put a pad on for now, it could be your waters leaking. Definitely sounds like a show you may well have more to come.

Don't think there's anything you can't do, go and enjoy your reflexology Smile

flightty · 06/06/2012 17:07

I can't remember about baths tbh but wouldn't want to go swimming. Personally Grin

Lulumama · 06/06/2012 17:08

I wouldn't go swimming just in case, but I'd deffo go for the reflexology

if your waters had fully gone, you'd not be in any doubt, but you could have had a leak from the hind waters.

I had that when i had DC2 and woke up in labour the next morning!

GnocchiNineDoors · 06/06/2012 17:09

Pad on, check it in an hour or two. If it is very wet, contact MW. Keep pad as they can test to see if waters

blushingmare · 06/06/2012 21:12

Thanks for the advice all. 'Twas my waters! Just back from the hospital and now I have until 5pm tomorrow to get myself in established labour - any tips?! Come on body!! [excited but terrified emoticon]

Oooo exciting! Can this be your labour thread?! Never been on one so early Grin

I would advise you to go to bed tbh get a good nights sleep if you can with any luck contractions will kick in soon Smile

GnocchiNineDoors · 06/06/2012 21:15

Eeeek! Am rather excited for you Grin

I went from no sign to contractions with the help of some rigorous (sp?) dancing to Dolly's "Nine to Five" and Mika's "Big Girls You Are Beautiful"

Of course, sleep would be the sensible option.

blushingmare · 06/06/2012 22:23

Ha ha! Ok am going to workout how my TENS machine works then go to bed - really hope I can sleep! This slow trickle of waters into my giant Tena lady pad is somewhat disconcerting, but in a weird way, oddly pleasurable - like doing a wee in the sea.... Blush

Oh can't sleep! Anyone up? Am starting to get back and tummy pains, not sure if you could really call them contractions yet. Just got up and made myself some toast and they seem to have eased off.

ha yes am awake for wee break! thought wld check how your doing. that sounds really good. stay in the love zone if you can, encourage lots of that loved up oxytocin around you. will check again on my next wee break!

littledid · 07/06/2012 02:56

I'm up! How exciting-it sounds like things are starting! In the early stages of my labours I found it impossible to sleep but try to relax and conserve that energy for later.
With my DC2, it was a mystery as to where my waters went. I didn't have a pop or a leak but they definitely weren't there when I got to hospital. The only logical conclusion I can cone to is that they went when I was having a bath.
Anyway, I'm awake with a coughing DC2 so if you need to chat I'll be around.

littledid · 07/06/2012 02:58

I can come to

blushingmare · 07/06/2012 05:27

Well I think I got an hour or so's sleep! For the past hour and a half I think I've been having contractions between 15-5 mins apart and never more than 30 secs duration. They mostly come on when I change position in bed etc. They're sore, but quite manageable pain-wise. In about an hour we'll have to decide if DH should go to work. If he does my mum will come up to be with me. DH will take about an hour to get home from work when needed. What do you think - should he go in? I feel like I've probably still got a long way to go and it would be a waste of one day of his paternity leave to just sit around the house waiting for me to progress. But I know he'll feel anxious about leaving me and won't want to risk not being around when I need him.

Hello!

I think he should take the day off, you'll soon know if this is it or not, he could always go in later on if things stop? Get mum on standby though.

Good luck!!

SpottyTeacakes · 07/06/2012 06:08

Agree with Foof. He will only be worrying if he goes to work and I think you would rather he was with you? Good luck I'm so excited for you!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 07/06/2012 07:22

Marking my place, this is exciting!

elvislives2012 · 07/06/2012 07:30

Ooh birth thread! .... Good luck!

blushingmare · 07/06/2012 07:34

Thanks! Any tips for getting labour going would be great. I know I need to conserve energy, but at the moment I'm really not in the place to sleep and every time I lie down all my contractions stop! I have 9 1/2 hours to get into established labour - can it be done?! Really hoping not to have to be induced!!

Did DH stay at home in the end? Have you got a birthing ball? You could try bouncing/sitting gently on that, or go for a walk? Gravity will help but also try to relax as much as you can. Some people may suggest a bath but I found that, whilst great for pain relieve, it slowed things down.

livismum · 07/06/2012 08:03

Yep I'd get bouncing (gently) on a birthing ball (with a towel over it!) swear it helped get things going with DD1 when my waters going were the first sign of things starting Smile

ticklebug74 · 07/06/2012 08:08

Yippee, I just jumped on board. Gentle walk to get things going and take your mind off it. Gravity definitely plays a part in my experience (currently pregnant with DC3). Good Luck Blushingmare!

Imnotaslimjim · 07/06/2012 08:13

ooooh cool, never made it to a labour thread before the OP has gone to have the baby

My advice would be to keep moving, gentle walks or bouncing on the ball.

Got my fingers crossed that they turn into established conactions soon

Coops79 · 07/06/2012 08:14

Ooooh this is very exciting! Do keep us updated, it's nice to hear all the detail of what I can expect. :-)

blushingmare · 07/06/2012 08:25

Don't have a ball but will get walking. DH has gone to work for the morning. I've now had an hour and a half with no contractions Sad so thought it was safe to send him off. Mum is on her way up so I won't be on my own. Just had a bath, but as you say, not sure this was the best thing for bringing things on
