Just had a show, but was it also my waters?

I'm pretty show I just had a show - tmi, but bloody snotty stuff. But there was also quite a lot of fluid. Enough to totally soak my knickers, but not enough to go through my linen trousers. Would that have been my waters or would there be more fluid if it was waters?

Also is there anything I shouldn't now do now I've had a show? Ie. baths? Swimming? I'm assuming it's still ok to go to my reflexology in half an hour?!

Oh birth thread.

I think a walk would be a good idea - just locally around the block - and stop at the local newsagents and stock up on goodies to take to hospital with you Grin

My contractions started and stopped for 2 days, during which I had a show. But I had severe stomach and back pains for 8 hours before my waters broke - on the way in to have them broken so I could be induced!!

I would just suggest keeping busy - I don't mean running around etc just doing something to stop you thinking about every contraction and the 5pm deadline.

Good luck blushingmare. I would second trying to do as much as you can to take your mind off things - that is what I'm determined to do with DD2 when she comes as the last time I was in 'labour' for days... not that it wasn't painful and felt real but I think I should have played it down at the start to conserve energy and excitement!

Hope things get moving soon Grin

sambrads · 07/06/2012 10:10

blushing a big massive good luck so excited for u :)

I would walk up and down the stairs as this helps baby down into pelvis and help dilate the cervix. I have heard of women walking the steps sideways.

With DD i had a show that morning cleaned the whole house cleared out wardrobes turned into some sort of crazy lady and she was born at 8.50pm. Sitting about will make it harder for you. hope ur ok

FoofFighter · 07/06/2012 12:59

Agree with the others keep as active as you can manage, it'll all help, lying in bed/on sofa won't let gravity help pull that baby down.

I'd advise going to the supermarket for a walk round, get yourself something yummy and nutritious for your lunch/tea/snacks, buy a gym ball! then just pootling about the house doing bits n bobs interspersed with bouncing on your ball.

And maybe an orgasm wouldn't go amiss either to help get those contractions starting again?! Blush Grin

How exciting! A lovely birth thread - makes me go all misty eyed and a bit Envy!

Agree with all the others - walk to the shops and buy a gym ball! The only way to get comfortable during labour IME.

You may still be dilating - I had a lot of stopping and starting but got to 5cms without really noticing.

If I were you, my plan would be to walk to the shops, buy a gym ball, walk home, have a nap, eat little and often (in case you vomit during labour). Everything you can do now, gently and slowly, will stand you in good stead in the next few hours/days/weeks/months.

Also heard about women walking up and down stairs sideways, and cleaning skirting boards. Hmm

Good luck Smile

EmilyD2012 · 07/06/2012 16:55

Exciting blushingmare!! Good luck - keep us posted!

blushingmare · 07/06/2012 17:59

Ho hum....

So just been in to hospital - they've checked me over and are happy to send me home without inducing tonight to give me another night to try and get properly established. So really happy not to be induced yet, but another sleepless night ahead! I've just been on and off all day - think I'm getting somewhere, with contractions every 4 mins or so, but then everything fizzles out and I have an hour with nothing. Don't think I've got up to the intensity of a "proper" contraction yet either.

So heading back home (although currently stick in rush hour traffic) and the wait continues....

Goodness can't believe my previous post was only at 8:30 - it felt so much later than that, although I suppose I'd been up all night! Not sure where this day has gone!

Well it all sounds positive Smile

And we're here now, a group of virtual strangers waiting with baited breath, handing out virtual cups of tea Grin

FoofFighter · 07/06/2012 19:38

I suffer with insomnia so will most likely be around to keep you company in the wee small hours blushingmare :)

Do you know what you are having already?

GobblersKnob · 07/06/2012 19:54

If you can be arsed, do this (or even better get your dh to do it).

Look down at your hand splay out your first and second fingers (counting from your thumb) rub firmly from the skin web down between the two tendons with your thumb, ideally you should 'caterpillar' (move your thumb up and down in a caterpillar motion, I am demonstrating this, but obviously you can't see meGrin). Right, now you or your dh have got the hang of it you need to do it on your foot in the same place (between the big and the next toe).

It is a reflexology point that stimulates the cervix and if you do it right, and you do need to press quite hard, you will actually feel it.

Do use some oil as you need to do it quite hard for a while and you don't want sore tootsies.

I managed to start off my friend doing this and she managed to start off another friend, is quite effective and worth a go.

Good luck Smile

blushingmare · 07/06/2012 21:18

Thanks everyone! You might be complete strangers, but it's good to have you with me!

We don't know what we're having. I think it's a girl, but everyone else thinks its a boy. Mind you, everyone has also been telling me I'll be early, going on size an position of my bump and I've always thought, based on when I think I ovulated, that I'd give birth late, on the 8th June - well.....

Think contractions might be getting a bit stronger. DH about to start a bit of acupressure - thanks for that. And going to start using tens if next contraction is as big as the last one. Just hope it doesn't all fizzle out againConfused

Morning! Any news!? GobblersKnob I'm going to try to remember that reflexology tip (although not sure what you mean by "caterpillaring").

Got everything crossed for you Blushing.
