Bleeding at 8 weeks. Any advice?

Hi - sorry, I'm sure this has been posted before, and I'm not sure if this is the right place...

I was about 8+2 on Friday pm and had a burst of heavy bleeding (with clots), but it had stopped by Saturday morning, and hasn't re-started since.

I had a miscarriage earlier this year and it started the same way, but the bleeding continued for 10 days. Does the fact that it's stopped mean that my chances are better this time?

I'll call the EPU at my local hospital when they open tomorrow, about the chances of an early scan - was just hoping someone might have some words of wisdom in the meantime. Have spent the whole weekend in tears, not being very productive...

Have no advice really, other than try and be calm. Hope for the best, and prepare for the worst.

I hope all goes right for you.

Thanks anyway, WhereMyMilk. You're right - that's probably the only sensible thing to do. I guess I was hoping to hear stories of similar things happening and everything being fine - will sit tight and hope I can get an early scan and not have to wait two weeks to know for sure. Thank you.

I had same at 7.5 in first pregnancy. Stopped after two hours and a&e booked me for epu scan next day and they said most probably implantation as the placenta formed.

Hi yellowflowers, thanks for that. So I assume everything was fine that time? I would be so ecstatic if that was all it was. Am going to a&e today, hopefully I get seen quite quickly. Thanks again.

I had heavy bleeding at around 7 weeks for an evening, was convinced it was the end but both twins were fine. I'm afraid there is no definitive answer. Hope it's good news for you today.

Hi, yes all was ok. Really hope it is for you. Xx

I bled at 6 weeks not alot but it was a big gush and scared me. Had scan at 8 weeks they found a hemorrhage (blood clot) quite a large one. Been spotting all different coloured discharge and blood since me bleed baby was fine on both scans I have had. But it still scary even though blood clot is getting smaller and baby is totally fine. Got another scan on Monday and I will be just over 12 weeks so im hoping blood clot has nearly gone now fingers crossed. I hope it nothing to serious for you and your baby midwife told me that quite alot of people can bleed during pregnancy and baby be ok. Xxxxx

Hmm... I spent a whole evening in A&E, and the result is still inconclusive (they didn't have a scanner). I did get a blood test though, and my hormone levels are high, but that's not a sure sign. The doctor also gave me an internal exam to make sure I didn't have an ectopic pregnancy.

Someone's going to call me about getting a scan in the next day or so - I just wish I'd been able to get an instant answer. Have my fingers very tightly crossed in the meantime. Thanks so much for all the advice xx

Hi don't know if this helps but I am 7week's & bleeding. Went to A&E couldn't see what was causing bleeding. Had scan yesterday & baby was fine. I'm still bleeding but I have a large cyst which may be the culprit. Still a worry though. Push for your early scan, call to remind them.

Where are you based? You can probably get a same day private one for about £100 if you're near a big city.

UnPregunta · 06/06/2012 20:39

Thanks yellowflowers. I just might do that actually. The hospital called today and won't be able to fit me in until Tuesday. Will look into private scans now.

And thanks so much Sonar, I'm really pleased to hear everything was fine with you. I have a couple of small fibroids, so that gives me some hope, if that could be the cause. You ladies are the best.

Just posting a positive update (hopefully this is useful for anyone in a similar situation) - I had my scan and all was fine. I cried with relief when I saw the little heartbeat and kicking.

Apparently it's just one of those things; the midwife said if you just bleed for one or two days, then you're likely to have a positive outcome, even if it's very heavy. Hope that helps...
