eugh! a couple of hours of PROPER sleep between night feeds sounds like bliss now compaired to all night of barely sleep
and I'm only 9 weeks so at this point it's just the peeing and the stupid all night of light sleep and being woken by wierd pregnancy dreams so far, still have bumps and kicks and reflux to add to the mix so it's only gonna get worse before it gets better!
bring on the night feeds and PROPERLY passing out for a few hours in between!

It gets easier. Come 12 weeks or so the constantly needing to pee will ease off and you should get done decent sleep in.

Im sure someone will remind you of this thread when you have a newborn Wink

monkeymoma · 03/06/2012 18:11

no it doesn't, once the bump comes there's a whole load of other CONSTANT sleep interrupters

much easier to sleep with a newborn! its broken sleep but at least its real sleep, rather than 9 months of light crappy sleep which is barely worth going to bed for!

DH agrees, he says that last time he was woken more by me tossing and turning and kicking him out because I was too hot/needed more space/needed all his pillows, than he ever was with DS, who at least slept peacefully between feeds!

I agree. A newborn is far easier in every way than early pregnancy. And late pregnancy. In fact ime a newborn is easier than all of pregnancy!

missingmymarbles · 03/06/2012 18:15

I am right with ya, Monkeymoma!!!

monkeymoma · 03/06/2012 18:19

I woke up just as tired as when I went to bed, maybe MORE tired because of all the crazy running around I was doing in my WIERD pregnancy dreams!
Takes AAAGES to get to sleep then I'm awake again at 5!

I had the most AWESOME sleep ever in hospital the night after DS was born, its amazing how you are instantly de-pregnatized! cannot wait!

Really? Must just be me then. Give me pregnancy sleep over a newborn any day. But then I breed non sleepers. DS1 slept for no more than 40 mins-1hr at a time. This continued until he was almost 14months...Sad

missingmymarbles · 03/06/2012 18:48

I had a non-sleeper too Bella, and I still say having a newborn/ poor sleeping toddler is easier than pregnancy. But then I have super crap pregnancies

babygsmummy · 03/06/2012 22:03

l cant wait to meet my little one for this very same reason, its the internal bruiseing l think that hurts more from my little bruiser than anything and once you think it settles down,it starts again and lm so looking forward to sleeping on my stomache, something l found really hard not to do.

melliebobs · 04/06/2012 03:19

More sleep with a newborn?! You on drugs?!

SilentBoob · 04/06/2012 03:24

I always get more and better sleep once they're born than in painful late pregnancy.

ishopthereforeiam · 04/06/2012 03:36

Am with monkey.... Had a non sleeper but better than pregnancy sleep... Plus am a natural insomniac so all in all... gOOD TIMEs!

Pidgy · 04/06/2012 03:44

Are you crazy! I thought I had bad sleep before, but now little one has arrived its definitely worse!

thedogwalker · 04/06/2012 04:58

I'm 39 weeks today with DC2 and cannot wait for newborn sleep. Fed up of heartburn and all the other late pg pains. DS1 was a good sleeper so hoping that DC2 will take after his older brother. Suffering heartburn right now hence no sleep Sad.

heliumballoon · 04/06/2012 05:06

More sleep with a newborn? WTF. Erm, when my DD2 came recently I was basically awake for four days and nights and having visual hallucinations for lack of sleep. You must have very different babies to me!
Melliebobs- short, to the point and bang on!

Florin · 04/06/2012 05:14

I am 37 weeks pregnant and cannot wait for baby to be born for some sleep. At the moment I am getting up every 1.5 hours to go to the loo. In between these hours I an kept awake by suddenly becoming really worried that we haven't bought something really stupid or stupid pregnancy dreams. Or baby keeps me awake with hiccups or kicking or my body aching under the weight of pregnancy. I was a tummy sleeper before so cannot wait to be sleeping on my tummy again. I am hoping newborn sleep is better than this as that is what is keeping me going!

RichManPoorManBeggarmanThief · 04/06/2012 05:21

31 wks and sick of not being able to get comfy and having constant heartburn. I am so deluded that I am actually looking forward to my 3 day post-birth hospital stay as a sort of mini-break.

DS was a good sleeper (basically slept non-stop for first 2 weeks- had to be woken for feeds - I called the health visitor as I was worried it was too much). I am hoping I just breed them like that. No doubt karma will bite me on the ass and give me a night time terrorist though.

melliebobs · 04/06/2012 08:23

Dd is 12 wks. Got to say I had it pretty easy during pregnancy. I have always been a tummy sleeper though. 12 weeks after a emsc still can't do it and add in a baby with reflux who refuses to be on their back but doesn't like being on their tummy then sleep is now somewhat of a luxury !!!

SwissArmyWife · 04/06/2012 08:37

I have to say, i'm quite shocked by this thread, OP. I suppose some of us are unlucky enough to have non sleepers, as my DD never bloody slept and it was horrible! I would have given anything for her to sleep a good two or three hours between feeds!
I definitely got more sleep when pregnant, and i'm not really having any trouble sleeping now that I am 18 weeks pregnant.

I hope for your sake that your baby is a good sleeper.. Grin

missingmymarbles · 04/06/2012 09:01

My baby was not a good sleeper, woke every 1 1/2 - 2 hours to feed day or night. Once old enough to have 'proper naps times /'routine', she slept for 40 minutes at a time - max! And she didn't sleep through properly til she was well gone 2. BUT, for me it wasn't that the quantity of sleep that improved, it was the quality. Even though, I only got very short bursts it was just much better sleep and I felt so much better Smile

missingmymarbles · 04/06/2012 09:04

Meant to say, that I just don't sleep for a long time or deeply when I am pregnant, even though I am knackered. And, this starts before I even have a BFP; it's the symptom that gives me the heads-up Grin before any other symptom kicks off.

missingmymarbles · 04/06/2012 09:06

I haven't slept properly since October Sad

This must really be bothering me, as I have felt the need to make sure my post is complete and it's taken 3 attempts to do it Hmm......................Grin

Kveta · 04/06/2012 09:12

Ds is still a bad sleeper after nearly 3 years. But after the insomnia of pregnancy, being able to get an occasional hour of sleep with a newborn was amazing.

Have been averaging 2 hrs sleep a night since 6 weeks pg this time, and cannot wait for baby to arrive (due tomorrow) so I can get some sleep, even though I will get woken loads by her and her brother, I will be able to go back to sleep afterwards! Bonus!

tummytickler · 04/06/2012 10:14

DC4 was a terrible sleeper for 3 years, but I still maintain I got better sleep than when I was pregnant, everytime. On top of that, at least dh can look after baby for a couple of hours whilst you get some kip. Dh cannot get up 3 times a night to wee for me!
Of course - if I sailed through pregnancy I might not agree, but pg is such hard work for me (and now I am pg with dc5!) that I infinitely prefer newborn, less tiring even with loads of other kids to look after too.

ipswichwitch · 04/06/2012 10:33

Didn't get any proper sleep while pregnant due to giant bump/severe acid reflux/need to per constantly/etc
Got no sleep with newborn- he was on SCBU for 3 weeks, then had reflux for 4 months/feeding every 1-2hr
Still getting no sleep with 8 month old due to him being crap sleeper/ still feeds every 1-2hr/teething/etc
The only difference now is that I'm a bloody sight more comfy in bed
