Slapped cheek - has anyone had it?

Hi all, my 2 yr old caught slapped cheek from nursery recently- came out in rash about 10 days ago now. I am 15 weeks pregnant and waiting for results of blood tests to see if I'm immune :-( this morning i have woken up with achy joints which appear to be a classic symptom. I am now in a panic!! Test results not likely back until next Friday due to long bank holiday and it's awful thinking the worse. Have only just stopped stressing all the time after a previous mc so could have done without this! Any experiences you can share would be very welcome please.

Hi, I caught slapp cheek at 10+3 weeks which was confirmed by blood test and like you had had a previous miscarriage and was really fed up. I have just had my 12 week scan and everything was ok and I have got an appointment with a consultant next Tues. From what I can understand is that at least now I know I have had it and am being monitored is a positive thing. The risk of miscarriage up to 20 weeks is due to the fetus becoming anemic. I have to have regular scans to make sure my baby doesn't get build up of fluid around it stomach and brain which is a sign of anemia. I do have an added worry as I caught it between 9 and 12 weeks which increases the risk of my baby getting hyrops which is a heart condition but I am trying to stay postitive.
If the baby does become anemic then they will keep an eye on it and worse case senario the baby will have to have an inuterine blood transfusion. After saying all this I have been assured by my midwife that the chances of all this happening is a small risk .
Good Luck with your test results, they may come back clear and you can take a big sigh of reliefxxSmile

Oh and my symptoms were burning hot cheeks which then disappered as quick as it came, feeling as if every ligament holding my bones together and been pulled, tiredness and slight temp + headache. Had it about 3 days. 4th day came out in a 'lacey' rash all over my body which eventually went after 2 days.

Also had pain in hands, knees and ankles xx

Thanks for sharing sproglet and I hope you recover ok. At least it sounds like ur getting good care - when I first asked my midwife about it she said that she didn't think it was a problem as she hadn't heard of it!!! I contacted the GP and insisted on a bloodtest though anyway. Am keeping fingers crossed but not hopeful as my joint aches are getting worse :( seems a bit too much of a coincidence for it not to be parvovirus really. How often are you getting scanned now then? My next scan isn't for another 5 wks :(

I will find out when I see the consultant next week. I think they will scan either one week or two weekly intervals. Also is does take 3-6 weeks before the virus can reach the baby via the placenta but I must stress it is not a given that it will. Some babies don't contact it at all. Keep postive I have my fingers crossed for you !
