DH is a personal trainer at a boxing gym - a posh one but a boxing gym nonetheless! They have a Thai Boxing coach who runs a club out of the gym and every 3 months or so, they have an inter-club fight night - Muay Thai fights, white collar boxing etc.
It was the run up to DH's first Muay Thai fight - he'd been training for months, on a special diet to meet his weight class, been training up to 5 times a week. It was at another boxing gym in Battersea and it was proper serious - proper weigh-ins, proper ring, filmed etc. He was getting increasingly nervous - it's no small thing to step into a ring, I've trained in martial arts - I know how hard it can be to get yourself into that kind of mental space never mind the physical preparation.
The week before his fight was when I was likely to be ovulating. He was pretty exhausted from having private clients at 7am in the mornings. He was working 6/7 days and nights a week with his own clients. And there's the whole thing about not having sex before a sports event you're training for
I kept saying - it's totally fine, relax, it doesn't have to be this month. Concentrate on training, your diet, your plan, relax, don't stress, you need to sleep. But he was determined we'd hit the spot, so to speak and - god love him - every single night the week up to my ovulation, he'd literally pick me up and swing me over his shoulder fireman style, and march up stairs.
When I say personal trainer, I always think people think a big burly guy with huge muscles. He's not like that. He's tall, athletic, ripped but mostly lithe. Even after 6 years together I didn't know his strength - it was only him picking me up and carrying me upstairs every single night after an evening's getting mashed in the gym that I realised. He must have been exhausted, and I loved him so much for that week.
We conceived that Saturday, the next Saturday he had his fight and won, and I was as giddy as a schoolgirl thinking - that's my man right there! I will never, ever forget how awesome he was because it could so easily have turned into something negative. Course - straight after his fight he crashed, was ill for a week but I lovingly cooked Thai chicken broths for him in honour of his win
