Baileys.

They usually just offer you toast after the birth. Take some cereal bars with you. Water might be best, anything too sweet you might end up vomiting back out.

slinkstah · 21/02/2006 13:11

grapes or bananas might be nice for labour as you might be hungry and need energy but can't face anything too stodgy
take ya own coffee for dh, coffee on the labour ward can be yukk and dh might need some to keep awake.

SoupDragon · 21/02/2006 13:12

I didn't want to eat anything!! Take stuff that keeps

munz · 21/02/2006 13:13

didn't think of that slink - will get DH to make a flask up for himself.

baileys - I don't like that - perhaps a small bottle of taboo instead! ? lol.

hmo2 - he probably could but knowing my DH he will forget everything! lol - hence why i've packed two baby bags just incase my stay is longer then over night! and he's also been briefed on which clothes are to be worn etc - ie the cheaper sleep suits are for straight after the birth and the posher velety winnie the pooh one is for after the LO is cleaned and bathed with the water etc!

is that sad or over organised? lol.

I had a huge apple craving throughout the whole of my dd's pregnancy so I took a bag of them to hospital.
I remember dh holding one for me and I took bites in between each contraction.

I also had a packet of rich tea biscuits.

They were a god send really as the food was diabolical in hospital so at least I had something to snack on the day after.

Also MIL brought in a huge choc cake for me which I happily shared with the midwives

Nbg · 21/02/2006 15:46

I would suggest taking some drinks too because the hospital shop normally sells them at double the price.

MrsDoolittle · 21/02/2006 15:49

I would recommend Cadbury's brunch bars. I had those in my snack box and they were lovely!
Oh and nuts and raisins.

munz · 21/02/2006 17:35

thanks girls, I was wondering should I take sarnies for DH or let him fend for himself/eat the same snacks I do?

apparently in our hospital dad's can visit when they want but only for 4 hours at a time, even if i'm in labour they're only allowed to stop for 4 hours and then the m/w sends them home. althou i'm hoping that once I get so many CM's dialted they don't pack him off! lol.
