Where do stretchmarks appear?

I've been lovingly covering my bump in cream twice a day; I know it might not work, but I'd rather try to prevent them.

Anyway I just noticed some on my back fat!! I haven't been putting cream there! Where else will they spring up? Feel like such a tool thinking only my tummy would stretch!

Under your bump, where you can't see them until the baby is born! They are very very sneaky. Mine only appeared at 39+ weeks and I was so proud I had avoided them!

bonzo77 · 31/05/2012 19:34

Potentially anywhere, but especially where you grow. So boobs, bum, hips, thighs. I think it's down to luck whether you get them though. I did use lots of bio oil and didn't get any. Grin

I've got stretch marks on my hips, back, thighs, breasts and tummy Sad.

monkeymoma · 31/05/2012 19:35

mostly back and hips, where the extra skin for the bump stretches from. Also thighs

monkeymoma · 31/05/2012 19:35

oh yeah boobs too

Loislane78 · 31/05/2012 19:35

Top of your thighs or side of hips or occasionally boobs are culprit areas too

thereistheball · 31/05/2012 19:46

Boobs and the small of my back, at waist height.

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 31/05/2012 20:18

my back?!?! How can I even reach my back?! Bloody things Sad

On the backs of my knees. Not even kidding.

I agree that you're either prone to them or you're not. It's all luck. I bio-oiled everyday and didn't get overly huge, but at 38 weeks I suddenly had a fully tiger-striped torso (and backs of knees).

SamraLee · 31/05/2012 20:42

Any where that might get bigger/fatter really... unfortunately.

missingmymarbles · 31/05/2012 20:47

I only got stretch marks on my boobs last time. After the birth. When my milk came in. Quickly. Angry
I still do not have any on my belly and I am way bigger this time than last time too. I'm not being smug, I suspect my norks will be ultra-sexy this time round Hmm

LaVitaBellissima · 31/05/2012 20:47

I used bio oil (twins) and have one tiny stretch mark under my belly button, as I slathered the stuff on however I didn't think to put any one my thighs and have lots of marks on my inner thighs Sad not that they get seen much, but I feel they could of been avoided!

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 31/05/2012 21:06

so basically anywhere above knees and below chin, back and front? The joys! Wink

I had none until my emcs. :( I do wonder if his method of arrival caused them. My stomach is covered.

JubileeMcPhee · 31/05/2012 21:33

I had none until 3 weeks ago. Now the underneath of my bump looks like a zebra crossing Hmm. I'll be 35 weeks tomorrow

LaVitaBellissima · 31/05/2012 22:22

Disclaimer I only got to 34 & 4 but the twins combined weight was just over 10lb. I fear if the pregnancy had gone to them I may have looked very different!

Yes, shower in Bio oil Grin

LaVitaBellissima · 31/05/2012 22:22

Them = term, bloody IPad!

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 31/05/2012 23:35

showering in bio oil sounds like the way to go LaVita!

emblosion · 31/05/2012 23:35

Mine turned up at about 30 weeks, underneath my bump trying to hide..... I've slathered myself in bio oil and cocoa butter from the word go but it hasnt stopped them! Grrr.

RockChick1984 · 01/06/2012 23:19

Mine only appeared about 2 weeks after the birth.... With the exception of 1 random one which appeared on the back of my calf muscle Hmm but my cankles were enormous so I suppose that must be where that came from!

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 02/06/2012 09:34

so basically, head to toe prior to birth and probably head to know after birth for a good few months.

Might just have some jubilee cake and stop worrying!

I have been rubbing oil into the bump since 16 weeks and was feeling very pleased that I'd 'got away with it' until last week when they started to appear on my back and just under my bump. Now they're all around my belly button and further down too, it's a bit disheartening but I don't think there was anything more I could've done to avoid them! I'm 39 weeks now and ready to pop - hoping he'll come before more appear but I've sort of had to make my peace with it now.
