Apologies in advance but need to rant about my stuuuuupid hospital!
Basically, I've had a shocking week that's only been heightened by the incompetencies of said establishment.

Sunday evening I had a call from a friend who told me her child has chicken pox - I was with the child at the weekend and she wanted to tell me because it can be quite dangerous to baby if mum is not immune.

My mum died a few years ago so she's no longer around for me to ask if I had chicken pox as a kid, I cant remember having it either Confused so I panicked myself like an idiot by reading worst case scenarios online, and then booked into the docs for the next morning. So, went to the doc, he said it wasn't in my medical history and sent me for urgent blood tests at the hospital. Yards before the entrance to the hospital my dad called me to tell me my nanna had died moments before so I was a bit of a blubbering mess while the nurse took my blood - result: a massive bruise!

NOW I've been calling in everyday since to see if my results are in and they're not! Keep trying to relax and not worry about it but I'm totally powerless and its really annoying me and stressing me out.

Urgent my arse!!!! Someone pass me the vodka! xx

Oh no poor you! I can't believe they haven't given you the results.
Spookily I have just gone through a similar situation last week. My DD woke up on Friday with chicken pox - I'm 9 weeks pregnant and went in to panic mode.
Called the GP surgery, got an appointment that morning for blood tests. The GP surgery called me back that afternoon to tell me the results.

I would demand they get the results urgently - that is ridiculous expecting you to wait so long when the results can be with you in a couple of hours.

Try not to worry too much, if you are not immune then they just give you an injection - another girl I know who is almost 20 weeks pregant and not immune was going to get that today.

Try to stay calm - but I would shout a lot at the hospital - that's unacceptable.

How infuriating! My lot managed to lose my first set of bloods- these things happen, but they didn't bother to call me so I didn't find out until I asked about the results 10 weeks later.
Ok. To rationalise... It's very likely that you've had chicken pox before- most people have when they were tiny.
If you haven't, you may not have been with that child when they were particularly contagious.
AND if you did get chicken pox, it's very likely everything would be absolutely fine anyway: www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1109.aspx?CategoryID=54&SubCategoryID=137#close
Keep calling though- I would imagine it will take up to a week for the results to be in. Good luck!
And sorry to hear about your nanna.

I've given the hospital a piece of my mind now, don't you worry Fletch1 I just don't understand how they can take so long when you're sent in as a matter of urgency.
Thank you Londonmrs, it really was a shock with my nanna and on top of the panicking it just all got on top of me, but yes you're right, rational thinking is the way forward. Some good news though... My DP and I felt some definite kicks these past couple of days so that's putting a smile on our faces :)

I had chicken pox when I was 30 weeks with dc3. I had the injection to stop me getting but still got it. I felt really really awful for a few weeks but long term both myself and baby were fine. I think it is only dangerous if you get it when birth is imminent or in really early days. Hope everything turns out okay x

Thank so much ladies, blood tests miraculously turned up a few hours after posting this and they came back all clear and fine. Panic over :) xx
