Deliver the placenta naturally?

Hello. Just finishing off my birth plan. Am hoping for as natural birth as possible if things go to plan but am still undecided about delivering the placenta naturally. Confused
My thinking is, if I manage to get through it without an epidural I've done bloody well enough and maybe I'll just want to get it over and done with and have the injection, but on the other hand, if I manage as naturally as possible, surely I should try and do the last stretch?!
I would really like to delay the cord clamping, but is this possible if I have the injection for the placenta? Lastly, how much longer is it likely to be to deliver the placenta naturally: are we talking minutes?
Sorry for the long winded post: basically please tell me everything you can about getting placentas out! Smile

I have a masters degree in child health and welfare and work as an antenatal teacher and doula huffle

Unfortunately midwives and other health professionals best intentions are massively constrained by a system based on convenience which ignores the research and evidence that doesn't serve its purposes. Paternalism, litigation and a society that wants to hand over responsibility all play into it.

We are so lucky to live where intervention is available where truly needed. Unfortunately it is usually needed as a result of previous questionable decision making and policy.

I work in the hope that the more women able to take the reality of this system on board, the more that will pick and choose what to opt into and what to opt out of in the best interests of themselves and their baby, the more the system will be forced to adapt and improve......

And some days I scan the skies for pigs... Grin

Definately make sure you do delayed cord clamping. With DS1 I had natural delivery of the placenta - downside - took an hour, upside - didn't have to take any drugs or anything and kind of enjoyed the process.

I delivered placenta naturally 1st time. Took an hour, was very painful and lost 700ml of blood. Next 2 times I got the injection.
It's really depressing after hours of hard work you get a lovely baby and then you have to do more pushing and have contractions. Really. not. worth. it!
