Cramps at 17 weeks - is this normal?

I've been experiencing period pain-like cramps in my lower abdomen on and off since yesterday evening and they've grown more intense tonight - coming in waves. I went to the doctors to get checked out for a UTI this morning, but he thinks it's unlikely. He didn't seem bothered about the cramps as there's been no bleeding or excessive discharge so far. I had aches earlier in my pregnancy, but they weren't this strong. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced stretching pains at this stage in their pregnancy or should I be contacting the midwife tomorrow?

It could be found ligament pain which is perfectly normal. I have been on and off C
crampy and I put it down to when I'm having a growth spurt.

If you speak to your midwife she'll reassure you
