The odd glass here and there wont harm you know, guidlelines penalise the moderate majority, because of the excesses of a few.

Mambonumber4 · 30/05/2012 20:18

When I was having first DC my midwife told me a glass of red wine a day was good for you.

thefurryone · 30/05/2012 20:21

Then have one, a couple of units even week is fine, it says so in my maternity notes.

WantAnOrange · 30/05/2012 20:23

I know how you feel! I'm 21 weeks, and have had half a glass a few times but thats all. I miss it though, I mean, what's a saturday night curry without a beer?!

Heavy drinking, alcoholism and binge drinking are the cause of foetal alcohol symdrome, but very light occasional drinking hasn't been found to do any harm.

Sarahmarie2505 · 30/05/2012 20:25

Ooooooh Hahahaha maybe I will then ? I just worry what ppl will think seeing a heavily pregnant lady holding a glass of wine?

hehe, it's your choice! Lot's of people don't drink anything, some people drink a little and are still fine. No-one knows how much is the 'right' amount, just do what you think is best.

WaitingForMe · 30/05/2012 20:46

I had a glass of wine at lunch yesterday and nobody commented. It was a networking thing which always has an amazing cheeseboard so I had to explain why I wasn't eating the cheese and still nobody commented although they were sorry on my behalf as they ate the delicious cheese.

Chunkychicken · 30/05/2012 21:37

I drank a small glass of red wine every week during my DD's pg & she's fine...

I've never really fancied alcohol much during my pregnancy so didn't miss it, but if I wanted a beer with my curry because, as you say, the 2 do go together, I tried a few non-alcoholic ones and some were pretty good!!

Have gone off alcohol again, it just tastes odd to me, but can appreciate how hard it must be to abstain entirely if you really fancy it - KFC was a go-to food a while back & I bet that's worse for your insides!! Grin

Much harder to steer clear of the wine when breastfeeding though, compared to pg!!!!

Jules125 · 31/05/2012 08:07

I would have one. There is no evidence of increased risks from small amounts of alcohol (1-2 units a week) after 1st trimester.

theressomethingaboutmarie · 31/05/2012 08:23

I have two small glasses of wine a week (I did with DD too) and thoroughly enjoy them. It's hardly like I'm going overboard or that my baby is at risk of FAS. A couple of units a week is just fine Smile

farfallarocks · 31/05/2012 08:26

I have 2/3 units a week and really enjoy them, a nice glass of wine with food every now and again will do no harm.

Bear in mind that in other European countries women are told a glass of wine a day is fine. Enjoy!

googietheegg · 31/05/2012 08:28

In France they say to have no alcohol at all when your pregnant btw.

sammyleh · 31/05/2012 10:54

Go for it :) A little red here and there helps me sleep brilliantly but I've been far too scared to touch a drop while pg. Had a chat with my boss the other day who told me that his wife would have a glass of red here and there and their baby is fine. Considering she struggled to conceive and was quite nervous throughout her pregnancy I found it quite reassuring that she wasn't afraid to indulge. I'm going to have a glass this weekend I think :) xx

Bue · 31/05/2012 11:48

Oh gosh, have a glass! One of the midwives I work with is pregnant and she drinks 2 small glasses per week (and doesn't follow any of the food 'rules') so you're in good company :)

PenelopeChipShop · 31/05/2012 13:16

Yeah I would. Am 35 weeks now and have had a glass about every week or two since since about 16 weeks which I feel fine with. Tbh if you're heavily pregnant the baby is almost fully formed so it's probably safer now than if you weren't showing but in the very early stages.

CakeBump · 31/05/2012 14:13

Have a glass!

I've been surprised how much I've missed wine actually, and have been having one small glass on average a week.

I have it privately though Blush as I'm sick of people commenting on the fact that I'm drinking. I just want to enjoy it without feeling guilty!

Haven't followed any of the myriad food rules though apart from no raw meat and eggs. I had some lovely runny brie this morning - delicious!! :)

EmilyD2012 · 02/06/2012 13:21

I reeeeally miss wine! The other night I decided to have a glass of Oyster Bay (my favourite), chilled from the fridge, outside in the evening sun.......

WORST HEARTBURN EVER!

What a disappointment!!

KatieMiddleton · 02/06/2012 13:26

Have a glass! Have really small ones and have two!

I went to a restaurant at 40+5 pg with DS and ate spaghetti with clams and a big glass of red. I could barely fit under the table and I cared not what anybody thought. I wanted a glass so I had one.

I don't drink more than one or two units a week and not every week. Not evidence that does any harm.

Seriously? Special clothes for drinking wine in pregnancy? Come on. I know you're spamming the boards with that website JeSuis but couldn't you have come up with something more credible?

You insult our intelligence even if I did have a bloody good laugh.
