I'm 40 weeks + 4 days pregnant with my 2nd baby. My 1st baby was fully engaged from 36 weeks and induced at 12 days past dates. He's now a healthy 7 year old and baby two is being stubborn to just like its big brother! I went to the midwife today as I was scheduled for a membrane sweep but when She examined me she said that she couldn't do the sweep because the baby's head is still 'free' and a sweep would be dangerous as there is a risk of cord prolapse. She examined my cervix and said it is at 1cm and unfavourable and she has booked me for an induction in 7 days time!! I really hoped to avoid induction this time as It was horrendous last time. I know there is still a week for me to go into labour naturally but now I've resigned myself to the fact that this baby just might not come on its own. I'm so fed up and ready for him to come out now :( I'm bouncing on my gym ball and trying to do a lot of forward leaning/kneeling etc to help the baby get into position but has anyone got any other tips. Anyone been in a similar situation? How do I get the baby to drop? I've read that 2nd or subsequent babies often don't engage until labour but I'm worried what will happen if my waters are broken artificially before baby has dropped. What if the cord comes down first? I'm so stressed thinking about all the scenarios.
