BFP & spotting all on the same day (ivf)... reassurance needed

I had a 5 day embryo transfer last Tuesday and I felt so freaking pregnant (sore boobs, sense of smell like a dog, metallic taste, nausea) that although my test isn't meant to be until Saturday, I tested today. BFP! YAY!!!! I've been pregnant once before which ended in mc and the feelings are so much stronger and much earlier this time. Cue delirious excitement. 3 hours later, brown spotting and pain. WTF???? On the same day? Is it bad news? It's how my mc started last time, but I just feel so pregnant. Anyone got anything helpful to share?

Hi, nothing helpful to add other than support as I've been there with the IVF and know how tough it can be not to think about every second of it! Test again on Saturday (slapped wrists for being impatient!), as the hormones from the ec and transfer may be skewing the results. In the meantime remember that spotting isn't necessarily something to worry about, it's more common than you imagine.

Hope it all goes well and you have an uneventful pregnancy!

it was an FET so no ec this time... but thanks for the support!

I got a BFP and implantation spotting on the same day Smile Good luck!

blacktreaclecat · 29/05/2012 21:25

I had brown discharge from before bfp for weeks. Also had a big bleed at 6+1. Now 34+4. This was ivf as well.

blacktreaclecat · 29/05/2012 21:26

And congratulations! Xx

My first successful pregnancy started with a bit of brown spotting and cramping. I didn't even bother weeing on a stick until a few says after my period was due because I was so sure it was on its way.

Huge congrats on your pregnancy and hope it all goes well x

thanks everyone, just so upset as this is how my miscarriage started last time - I know there's still a chance, just don't feel very hopeful and can't stop crying

Hi Polly, hope these replies are helping you to feel better.

Please try to be positive!

farfallarocks · 30/05/2012 15:46

Ah Polly, you poor thing, I have had 2 chemical pregnancies and they both started that way.
3rd BFP and the same thing happened and I convinced myself it was happening again but I am now 18 weeks! So it has gone both ways for me, the difference this time was lack of progression and although I had some mild cramping, it was nothing like the last times.

Can your clinic do some serial beta HCGs and check they are doubling? That is the only way to really know at this sarly stage what is happening.
Don;t give up hope yet though!!

Pollykitten · 30/05/2012 20:28

Thanks f'rocks I might ask them about that as I have a holiday booked in a couple of weeks and the viability scan wouldn't be until after that and I don't think I could manage that length of uncertainty

I conceived DD2 on my 6th Clomid cycle.

I was absolutely convinced I'd get my period as my boobs were full and tender, nipples were extra- sensitive and I had brown discharge :( Got very down, as usual.

However, a week of that and still no period ... Did a pregnancy test and it was positive!!! That wa August last year and babba was born 6 weeks ago Grin

So maybe it's all those extra hormones pumping around your body (fertility drugs and pg) or implantation spotting?

Congratulations! Thanks

Hi hon,

I have just completed my 1st cycle of ICSI & PGD. DH and I were so excited to get our BFP result, we have been on this jorney now for 4 years. Here is my blog if you want to know more - ivfpgd-hope2011.blogspot.co.uk/

I am 5 weeks pregnant. I am bleeding quite heavily, only when I go to the toilet and pass urine. There is hardly any blood on panty liner, it only seems to be in toilet. The blood is red and also some clots are there. I have mild cramping in my tummy but not terrible pains.

My 1st HCG result was 189 and my 2nd was 269. I have called the hospital and asked for another blood test, I go back up on Monday.

This is torture so I know how you are feeling :( x

Pollykitten · 01/06/2012 14:54

hi NewMember, poor you, it is exhausting isn't it? Red bleeding can be a small clot or even an eroded cervix I have heard. good that your numbers are going up on the HCG. I requested an HCG from the GP yesterday (my clinic is 2 hours away) and so I've had one yesterday and then my next one on Wednesday, but at least my spotting has completely stopped. A certainty, one way or another, is a lot easier to deal with than all the hope and uncertainty. Best of luck x

Just got my first HCG back and as it's still only 9 days past ET I'm happy with it (46 - normal range at this point 0-50) so fingers crossed for next Wednesday - although it will be Thursday before I get the result. ARRRRGH! Rollercoaster!!!!!!!

Just a quick one ladies as I am just home.

I have been in hospital for the last 7 hours I am drained, sore and very emotional. The bleeding and the pain got so bad hubby took me to A&E. They hooked me up to a drip and gave me some fluids, probably due to the amount of blood I have lost. To be honest, I am not really any further forward. They have given me three options. 1 - I will continue the pregnancy but possibly bleed a little more 2 - I will have early miscariage 3 - I will have ectopic pregnancy. They did give me an internal and at the moment my cervix is still closed so that is a good sign. They thought about keeping me in but I promised to go back up if our situation got worse. I am on bed rest until Monday, I will then go back up for another HCG test!

I have nothing else to give! I need a break xxx

Pollykitten · 02/06/2012 08:51

Hi NewMember blimey you've had a really tough time, so sorry to hear about it. But, cervix is closed so that's hopeful. What can I say, but hang on in there and wishing you the very very best of luck. I read a study about laughter being good for ivf ladies and bought the Michael MacIntyre DVD, which I have been diligently watching whenever I felt too gloomy - it's really helped, good for stress relief too! You probably don't feel like it just now, but it might help the time go more quickly until your next HCG. Good luck xx
