Anyone had these - was it ok? I've just been given a three day course as chest v bad. Asthma uk helpline said it was ok and my nurse at GP gave it to me releuctantly.

Yes they are fine. A short 3 day course is better for you and your baby than not being able to breathe. I had them at 7 weeks, 15 weeks, 24 weeks ,32 weeks and then the week before DD2 was born.

Hi! I'm 14 weeks and I've just finished a 6 day course plus antibiotics for a stinker of a chest infection so no probs. First thing my asthma nurse said when I told her I was pregnant was you can safely have steroids and antibiotics during pregnancy and it's really important to keep on top of asthma as the baby needs you to be healthy so wouldn't hesitate to take them again.

Thank you both. I think they are fast acting. Took them at 4pm as soon as I picked up from pharmacist and already really a bit better.

Are they Prednisolone? It's controversial treatment for some, a niche area of treatment for others, but these are sometimes actually given to pregnant women who have suffered from recurrent miscarriage. I was on 40mg a day until the end of the first trimester, which is a reasonably high dose. They are fine for the baby and do not generally cause any problems - apart from having their own not-so-brilliant side effects for some.

Yes that's the one. That is reassuring thank you. X

The side effects aren't much fun! But neither is chronic asthma I guess, and neither was recurrent miscarriage! They are strong drugs though and definitely seem to do the trick.

And did you have your baby freelancegirl?
