Weight gain at 24 weeks/6 months

Hello

Just wondered how much on average people have put on in weight during the first 6 months? I am 24 weeks and have put on about 6 or 7 pounds since 12 weeks. Does this sound low or about right? BMI is about 24, I am normal size pre-pregnancy 10-12. I have had a look on the weight gain calculators but guidelines do seem to vary and I know midwifes don't really weigh us anymore.

Confused

I am 23 weeks, average size pre-preg 8-10 depending on where I shop Grin and I've put on 9 pounds. This seems to be on the light end, but I do live in the States, and they like to fatten you up!

It's my third preg, btw, and previously I've put on 22 pounds with DS and 26 pounds with DD. This seems about 'normal' to me, but equally, I've had friends who've put on 40 pounds plus - and they've all lost it afterwards (as have I!)

You seem to be doing fine - after all, the baby's really going to start piling on the pounds in the last trimester, so it seems to make sense to reserve the majority of the weight gain till then!

It's possibly at the lower end, but as long as you're eating plenty and the baby's size was fine at your 20w scan, it's probably fine. It varies enormously, and some women gain more at the start, or more at the end, or gain evenly throughout. I had gained about 16lb in my first pregnancy by that stage; this time I'm 21w and have gained about 10lb (but I started slightly heavier this time). I'm normally about a size 8-10.

Great thank you

I put on 2lb up to wk 12 and then 8lb from weeks 12 to 24. Currently I am 31 wks and have gained 18lb. All of my weight measurements are on the lower side but all my scans and bump measurements have been within the normal ranges. I started with a BMI of 20.
I agree with everyone else, provided your 20wks scan showed your baby was a normal size and you grow at a normal rate then all is well :). xx

I'm 23 weeks and have put on about 9 lbs - and it's all bump; I'd still be wearing all my normal clothes (size 10ish) if only the midriff sections stretched more! I'm saving the rest of my weight gain allotment for the next 16 weeks... Grin

Beans1977 · 29/05/2012 09:01

I'm 23 weeks and have put on 10 lbs - I was a size 14 to start with so didn't want to gain too much, but I think most of the weight has gone towards my bump and boobs.

During pregnancy I have realised how much of my calorie intake comes from booze Shock Blush as I expected to put on more weight!

celebmum · 29/05/2012 16:31

I'm 20wks (tomorrow!) and have so far put on 4lb! I was pretty much spot on 11st and have just weighed myself now for the benefit of this thread (same scales!Grin) and they show 11.4..

I feel bigger, I'm defo squidgier, my boobs have gone from a 34c/d to a 34dd so I know I'm bigger.. But 4lb doesn't seem
Like a righ lot?? Confused

cakeladyc · 30/05/2012 12:19

i'm 24+5 weeks and so far i've put on 5lbs. The scales didnt move until 22 weeks, which i thought was quite weird and i spoke to the midwife about it when i saw her this week, but she said that everyone is so different, theres no 'average' weight gain.
I'm a size 16 normally btw, so i've probably used a bit of my reserves when i was feeling really sick!

Littlecherublegs · 30/05/2012 14:31

Gosh, I feel a right bloater now!! I seem to have put on a bit more than some of you ladies!!

Im currently 25 weeks and have put on 20lbs so far Shock

Pre-pregnancy I was a size 10 with a BMI of 21.
I dont fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes anymore, esp. my jeans!

I now feel fat!! Sad

MrsPaynie · 30/05/2012 14:36

Littlecherublegs, don't let it worry you! I'm only 14 weeks and have already put on 7lbs, mostly down to needing to eat to cure my ms for the first few weeks. Everyone gains at different rates, some gain very little and other gain more early and it slows down towards the end. As long as baby is growing healthy it shouldn't matter

Naisy · 30/05/2012 16:31

I lost 5.5 pounds in in my first tri and now at 22 weeks have put back on 3 of that. Body shape has completely changed though with prominant bump so I'm not worried. Am expecting to balloon bloom later!

Moominsummermadness · 30/05/2012 17:48

littlecherublegs, i too was a size 10 with bmi of 21, Will be 24 weeks tomorrow and have gained 18lb. So don't worry, you are not alone! I have a big bump, but my face and upper arms look fat too!

Littlecherublegs · 31/05/2012 12:36

Thanks MrsPaynie and Moomin - thats helped! Smile

I have never really worried about my weight at all. I rarely used to weigh myself, have never had to diet, and I guess my high metabolism has kept me a fairly regular, lean size 10.
Im still not overly conscious about my weight just obviously being pregnant the weight gain is obvious as well as the change in body shape etc - theres no getting away from it!! And then you read threads on here about people who have only put on a pound by 30 weeks or something and it does get me thinking!!
So nice to hear Im not the only one anyway and I know it comes with the territory really.

Thanks! Smile
