I'm a paranoid control freak at the best of time but pregnancy makes me so much worse!

I rang the midwiife earlier as my baby wasn't moving as much as he does (it was 2pm when I called and I hadn't felt him move since 8am and he's usually really active between 12&2pm). Anyway, she told me to drink some cold water and lie down and wait an hour. An hour later I felt him moving when I put the laptop on my tummy.

Now I have a stabby pain in my right lower side it comes and goes and it's not unbearable but I can feel it IYSWIM? I also have these like back spots in my vision but they don't last very long and I feel a little faint, the feeling fait is pretty common (and it is warm here today).

Coupled with the baby not moving as he normally does, I'm freaking out a bit concerned and wondering if I'm just over analysing. Talk me down ladies!!

Ring your maternity unit, please. Better to be safe than sorry. Not going to talk you down, it could be nothing, but always better to play it safe.

Eye spots proabably due to stress.

Do you have a walk-in centre nearby ? we've got a cottage hospital that you can nip along too for a mid-wife to have a listen to babe and put your mind at ease.

A paracetamol for niggly pain would be fine too.

Did you go for your 20 week scan ?
All well, reasure yourself that your babe is likely to be totally fine.

Remember you are not responsible, none of us are, we incubate our little ones but have no influence over the outcome. Know that.

You are past the half-way mark ! One day at a time.

I have a Doppler here so can listen to his HB, it's about 140bpm.

Is that all the hospital will do, I'm guessing just hearing the heart beat isn't as technical as what they would do as they might notice patterns I would miss?

Yup had my 20 week scan (at 19 weeks) and my next midwife appointment is 12th June.

I think you're all right, it's so ridiculous, I don't want them to think I'm a neurotic first time mum wasting their time Sad

It is not ridiculous at all.

It's normal to have times of anxiety.

An action plan might help.

Say, check heartbeat, drink cool water, put feet up for half an hour, if your mind stops worrying and drifts off to a bit of telly then fine, if not and give health services a call.

Mechavivzilla · 27/05/2012 20:46

If you are at all worried, go in and check. Even go to A and E if you feel you need to. They will definately not think you are an hysterical first time mum, this is what they are here for. They (and you too!) would rather get you in and tell you there is nothing wrong than have you home alone worrying and miss something. You will not will not will not be wasting their time.

Having said that, pregnancy is full of wierd aches and pains and I am sure you are fine. Like you said, it is stupidly hot at the moment! But Always better safe than sorry xx

If you are worried don't hesitate to be seen, even if it just reasures you it's worth it!

The black spots are could well be floaters. You see them more when the light is really bright or it's very sunny. I got them with my DD from all the pressure of the extra blood in my body, which alsogave me headaches and caused me to feel faint.

It is always worth having your blood pressure checked if you feel like that though.

hope you feel better soon

Hey everyone, I just got back, everything is fine thankfully. The midwives saw me really quickly and found the babys heart beat which was perfect but she wanted to DR to do an internal to be sure as my tummy was really hard on one side.

Dr came after a little wait, had my internal and everything looks good, possibly ligament pain. Only problem now is they took a swab and want to test me for Strep B and if I have it that's the home birth out the window.

But everything is fine and they were lovely about me being there and said to go back if the pain gets worse or if he keeps not moving.

Thanks everyone Grin

Glad everything worked out OK. Just wanted to reassure you you're not alone in worrying; I'm 20 weeks with DC2 and I worry all the time - usually when it's been a couple of weeks since a scan/midwife appointment! I think it's always worth getting checked out if you're worried about something in pregnancy, better to be being 'silly' than dismiss it as such and miss something IMO. Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy and the strep B results. Hope you get your home birth (I think I might try for one this time too) :)

Mechavivzilla · 28/05/2012 13:49

Really really glad to hear everything is fine :) xx
