I am struggling to find one that isn't a foot too long! I'm 5 foot 5 which is meant to be average - maybe only taller ladies are allowed to wear maxi dresses but it would be lovely to have one. Any tips on where to find ones in petite ranges or similar?

Ju1es22 · 27/05/2012 19:41

Asos. Have some beautiful ones I bought they're maxi with grecian tie detail in light pink/purple fit really well and light cotton material is perfect for this weather:-)

BikeRunSki · 27/05/2012 19:44

Gap had some navy jersey maxi dresses on sail rail last week. Not specifically maternity, but I bet they'd work.

kid · 27/05/2012 19:46

I got a lovely one from Next. You can wear it strapless or use the spaghetti straps supplied.

Bunbaker · 27/05/2012 19:53

Don't laugh, but there are lots of nice ones in BHS.

BikeRunSki · 27/05/2012 20:01

Do'h , sale rail.

blushingmare · 27/05/2012 20:47

I've got a real winner from Seraphine, which I've lived in this week. A bit £££ though Blush

HoneyMum21 · 27/05/2012 21:05

Although not specifically maternity, H & M have some simple jersey maxi-dresses in which are great and are only £12.99 a go. It's in their basics range. Hope this helps

mrswee · 27/05/2012 21:06

Gap have a really cool black and white striped one in the maternity section. I tried it on and even though it is striped it is surprisingly flattering. Also some nice ones in the sale.

VeronicaSpeedwell · 27/05/2012 21:24

I can't get the link to work right, but I have the Shailey jersey dress from Monsoon which is lovely, and it still fits me and drapes nicely at 40 weeks (I bought a size small, and I'd say i'm usually an 8-10). I got it at about 25 weeks, before the bump really took off, so i reckon it will stay a favourite afterwards.

WannaSplitAPineapple · 27/05/2012 21:41

New Look have some. I got one which is really flattering and they are only about £25.

Bibulus · 27/05/2012 21:45

Just today I have been shopping for a maxi dress to wear to my work leaving do on Friday (am 35wks)

Found this Julien MacDonald dress on sale at Debenhams and I LOVE it

www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10001_10001_007010634160_-1?breadcrumb=Home~Women

It is really, really flattering, although had to go up a size from my usual

i am going to wear it all summer so it continues to hide my lumpy bits - plus there's easy bfing access too - what a winner

Bibulus · 27/05/2012 21:47

also not too long at all - am 5ft 5ins and there are a good few inches between the hem and the floor

MyDaydream · 27/05/2012 22:04

I was in Dorothy Perkins yesterday and they seemed to have some nice stretchy ones rather than billowing styles. Didn't try them on since I was just passing the time browsing, but I much prefer a more fitted style maxi.

twizzlestix · 28/05/2012 07:14

I got 'normal' sized ones from New Look and Dorothy Perkins (im not tiny btw i got a 16) They are both jersey material so stretchy with plenty of room for growth but not billowy. They cost £20 each. I got 2 Stripey T-shirt style dresses from DP and a patterned one from New Look.

bishboschone · 28/05/2012 07:19

Next do fitted maternity maxi dress

ellesbell · 28/05/2012 07:40

I guess it depends how far along you are. I'm only 5"6 so maxi dresses are normally a no no for me but with a 36 week bump they have become my best friend! There are some really nice and affordable ones in the supermarket ranges (TU and F&F)

Salhal · 28/05/2012 07:42

I got a maternity one from boden for a wedding and it is really comfy and very flattering. Its navy blue jersey but looked good dressed up for the wedding and still cool with flip flops. I am 5ft 2 and a size 10. It was expensive but I'm wearing it now to try and get wear out of it before the baby comes in 4 weeks! They look to have some ok ones at new look but only had black when I got this one, now have other colours.

PregnantCappuccinoDrinker · 28/05/2012 09:34

I can recommend the jersey asos ones, I bought one for a wedding and it fits really well and is a bit more close - fitting than a lot of them so not tenty. And that's coming from someone who never ordinarily wears them as I'm so short. I did have to get the hem taken up to fit me but it didn't affect the fit of the dress itself.

AAK1797 · 28/05/2012 12:43

Boden also do a Petite non-maternity maxi that fits me OK at 30 weeks - quite pricey but at least it doesn't hit the floor (I'm about 5"3).

0FrillyKnickers0 · 28/05/2012 13:21

Hi sambrads! I'm wearing the most comfortable one today (I'm 27 weeks pregnant) and I got it from Mothercare click here. It is so light and lovely!! £30 from their website x

HamblesHandbag · 28/05/2012 13:41

I bought this one from Dorothy P which gets compliments (just bought a size up).

In general I think jersey dresses that stretch round, and thus emphasise the bump look better than voluminous dresses that drape from bump to floor IYSWIM.

like this one from JoJoMaman

WeeJo08 · 28/05/2012 17:22

Hi sambrads!

I just bought this one today from JoJo Maman Bebe:

www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/sp+stripe-maternity-and-nursing-maxi-dress-in-dresses+B4534

It's really comfy and soft and it does for nursing too. I am pretty short (not even 5ft 4, hence the "WeeJo"!) and it is an okay length for me to wear with flats. It was £39 - plus there's a voucher on their website you can download that if you buy in store and spend over £30 you get 10% off so it makes it a little bit cheaper. It's the first time I have ever worn a maxi dress and I really like it.
