Early scan measuring small for dates

hello,

I had an early scan this morning (private with Babybond). My LMP was 03/4 which puts me at 7 weeks 4 days. I have a slightly longer cycle than average so had calculated that I'd be 7 weeks today (although based on ovulation spotting I thought it would be closer to the 7 weeks 4 days). The scan showed baby in right place and showed heartbeat, however it measured 0.47cm which puts me at 5 - 6 weeks. THere is no way I can possibly be 5 - 6 weeks even allowing for long cycle - I have BFP over 3 weeks ago and clearblue showed 2 - 3weeks nearly 3 weeks ago (which would've mad eme 4 - 5 weeks then)

is it possibel the measurement was out? or is it always a bad sign if the baby is small? I asked at the scan and she wasn't concered but just adamant that my dates were out but even allowing for some leeway, the earlist I could be is still over 6 weeks. Has anyone had experience of this?

I've searched online and some old threads on here and it seems that sometimes the baby isn't growing properly even when there is a heartbeat and it seems to normally result in miscarriage. I'm so worried I'm thinking of getting another scan next week!

Hi there, I also had baby bond scan this week which put me 10-14 days behind. . I worked out I was 6.5 at scan but scan was max 5.

I have been lurking on these sort of threads for last 48 hrs but finally decided to start a post - about an hour ago, not sure if u have seen, quite a few similarities

Hope you are ok? X

Thank you TTC. I'm ok. I've had no bleeding so still a little hopeful! I'm seeing midwife next week so will ask how likely it is to be wrong. Hope everything is ok with you

Think of it this way - scan probably + or - 5 days in reliability and sperm live up to 5 days in uterus so acceptable margin of error?

Heartbeat great sign.

Heartbeat is a great sign.

For various reasons I got 3 NHS scans prior to 14 weeks with DS1.
They had me 1 week out at (my dates) 6 weeks (their dates 5 weeks), 2 weeks out at 8 weeks (their dates 6 weeks), and agreed with my dates at 13 weeks. DS1 arrived the day before his EDD.
Baby is so small at this stage just being a tiny amount can really change the dates.
Congrats on your pregnancy

Thank you ophelias and nextphase

nextphase that's really reassuring. She didn't seem concerned at all even knowing my LMP date so I'm cautiously optomistic

Congrats on your pregnancy. When I had my first early scan they dated me at 7 weeks by size & LMP. I didn't think this was right, as there was no way in my mind that could be correct. I thought I would be 3-4 weeks max. When my DD was born I went 12 days over my due date & she was really covered in vernix, and the midwife said that she was not an overdue baby. She was either a week early or bang on time. This would have made all their medical dating incorrect.
Don't worry about it, but I know it's easier said then done. I worried all through my pregnancy. DD was 7.4lb born, so all good.

Hi. I had a Early scan and it measured me a little behind although i know i should have been a little ahead. Sonographer said nothing to worry about as really hard to get accurate measurements in early days. Now 27 weeks and app ok.
