Is yours a horse or a train?

I was talking to a pregnant friend today, and she was saying her midwife says that a baby's heart beat sounds either like horses' hoofbeats, or a train. And if it's one it is a girl, and the other a boy...she couldn't remember which is supposed to be which!

So which does yours sound like, and do you know whether you are having a boy or girl?

Mine sounds like a train, and I don't know the sex.

Train - and i had a girl (not that i belive in that kind of stuff)

I don't believe in it either
I have a boy and a girl already, and don't remember their heartbeats sounding any different!

just read on a website that girls are ment to have a higher heart rate then boys.
we pg with ds the mw said that it could be a boy as he had a slower heart rate then usual and that girls are faster. (make sense?)

I think its a train for a boy and a horse for a girl! Can't remember with DS and not sure as quite quite so far wiht this one. Will have a listen when I see midwife on 1st March.

Kelly1978 · 20/02/2006 10:02

I can't remember which is which neither, but my midwife told me this towards the end of my first pg and said oh, its definately a girl. We didn't actually want to know before she was born, but she was right!

This method isn't completely foolproof. I was convinced I was having a girl and the heartbeat was always on the high side, which made me all the more convinced. When I went into hospital to be induced, the midwife even said "Her heartbeat is..."

But it was a boy!

Like the horse/train thing though. Will remember that for next time.

Mine sounds like horse hoof and I am having a boy.

Enid · 20/02/2006 13:49

ooh this babys heartbeat definitely sounds less 'manic' than the dds did

maybe it is a boy!

LadySherlockofLGJ · 20/02/2006 13:51

When I was PG the heartbeat was sooooooooooooo fast, had a boy .

cupcakes · 20/02/2006 13:54

haven't heard of the train/horse thing - which is faster - the horse??
My mw said I was having a girl because of the fast heartbeat. She was right (everyone else thought it was another boy because of the shape of my bump).

WigWamBam · 20/02/2006 14:20

When I was pregnant I mentioned to a midwife who was doing the heartbeat that it sounded different; it had sounded like horses hooves the previous time, and sounded like a train on that particular occasion. She told me that when it sounds like hooves it's usually not the baby's heartbeat that you're hearing, it's the blood flow through the placenta. She said that usually when you hear the horses hooves sound it's an inexperienced midwife getting it wrong ... I don't know if she was right, but it's certainly what she told me.

hunkermunker · 20/02/2006 14:22

Both DSs heartbeats were high. And both sounded like heartbeats, not trains or horses.

PrettyCandles · 20/02/2006 14:24

Nah, as accurate as the ring test, IMO. Both of mine sounded the same, yet I ended up with one of each.

Wallace · 20/02/2006 20:14

That's interesting WWB.

I don't know which is faster, I think maybe train. Both ds and dd just sounded like heartbeats, but this one really is a train
