I was pregnant and delivered DD in the Middle East. Average temp was around 45 degrees C.
I found misting water from a plant spray on your face a good way to make you feel cool, also, as someone said getting out of the shower and not drying yourself. Letting evaporation cool you down.
The plant mister works at night too. It may give your DH/P a surprise which is good.

springydaffs · 26/05/2012 10:23

oh I feel for you pg women! I had a baby in september after an unbearably hot summer. spent the entire summer in the relatively cool sitting room with toddler dd (she didn't seem to mind), impossible to go out except very early morning. I also moved my bed to the window and slept with my feet hanging out

Herrena · 26/05/2012 10:32

31+4 with a 11mo DS to chase after. It's too damn hot :(

The thing I hate about hot weather in this country is that the houses are designed to keep heat IN. It does not help!!

I'm surviving by driving when I can and keeping all the windows in the house open (curtains shut though). Feels like living in a den of murk but 'tis cooler...

AlpinePony · 26/05/2012 10:40

This isn't hot!

It was 39 degrees the day I had my son. He was cooler in his incubator than I was!

RubberBandit · 26/05/2012 11:07

Alpine, I'm Irish! Any temperature that necessitates removal of thermal underwear = hot!

That said, I usually love hot weather..the hotter the better. SPD and a cold and not being able to cool down with th assistance of a large G&T is making me intolerant to just about everything.

SESthebrave · 26/05/2012 18:46

40 wks tomorrow (eek!) and really lucky that our living room doesn't get the sun and stays cool.
That being said, 3yo DS wanted me to sit out on his climbing frame all afternoon and pretend it was a pirate boat that we were sailing together. I gave up that game at 4pm.

iowmum88 · 26/05/2012 19:44

39+4 today am trying not 2 complain about the sunshine as I complain enough when it's pissing it down!!
Am very hot n fed up though and actually appreciated DP and DS 2.9 years throw water all over me today was bloody lovely!! But would really like baby to arrive now as we have a posh party to get to in London 10 days after my due date so needs to come now if we're going to make it and my poor mum can't go if I haven't had the baby so will feel very guilty!

firstbubba · 26/05/2012 21:08

21+3 scotland with fat ankles :(

weeze444 · 26/05/2012 21:48

Yep i'm with ya! I'm 34 weeks, having mild period pains, swelling like a balloon, grumpier than grumpy on a bad day and normally love the heat!

Am running round after a grumpy in this heat 3 year old too!!!!!! Not easy!

Its ok ladies......before we know it we will be sat in this heat, babies asleep in the pram sipping on a nice cold glass of wine?????????????

Oh I can dream........................good luck everyone x

Buckfollocks · 26/05/2012 21:52

I am 31 weeks and have 20 month old - it is too frigging hot for words! What the hel are you all wearing - I am unbearably hot in most clothing but too fat and wobbly for summer clothes - also cannot find any online maternity clothing that is summery and nice!

I want some nice cropped trousers of some sort and some vest tops that don;t shrink the first time you arsing wash them (yes Boden Maternity - I am glaring at YOU!)

Soooo grumpy I am boring myself let alone everyone around me!!!!

weeze444 · 26/05/2012 22:00

Buckfollocks - Try H&M for vest tops, they wash nice and are good to wear if you are planning on breast feeding as tey flap down at the front! I'm gonna go tomorrow cos i feel like you, I have dresses but feel I need to wear leggings underneath?????? They also have in nice maxi dresses so am gonna look at them I think????
Good luck and happy shopping x

IamtheSnorkMaiden · 26/05/2012 22:41

Sympathies to everyone suffering. My twins are two years old on Monday and this time two years ago I was 36.5 weeks pregnant, living on ice lollies and spending every day wallowing in the paddling pool. I walked around semi-naked, slept half the day away and itched all night long.

openerofjars · 26/05/2012 23:03

Yyy to H&M. Their normal ones are v cheap as well, I just bought some bigger than usual ones.

josel · 26/05/2012 23:09

I'm 17wks and although I'm not doing too bad heat-wise, we've not been able to open our windows or doors to get a draft going due to the nest of bees that we have somewhere in the house. All exits are blocked but pregnant and bee catcher do not go hand in hand. We collected about 50+ bees from inside the house since Sunday, and just now while going to gargle with salt water owing to the raw throat and cough I have - guess what - another flippin bee. I only use my wine glasses for bee catching these days. So it's more my sanity that I'm not coping with rather than the heat!

CupsofTeaAndHandfulsOfCake · 26/05/2012 23:57

I have 8 weeks to go.

I thought I could not be any more evil and moody.

Then the hot nights started, I have barely slept and I actually could melt and I am more evil and moody.

Duckypoohs · 27/05/2012 01:04

I empathise totally, was 38 weeks pg at the beginning of Aug 2003, I literally used to cry at the weather forecasts Blush, was also heavily pg during the summer of 2006, was canny enough to actually buy a fan then Wink.

It's so not fun being pg in the heat, especially the massive feet and sausage fingers. I expected another scorchio one in 2009 when pg again, but the spell was broken and it was a bit crap.

jomojomum · 27/05/2012 20:41

I spent my 2nd pregnancy in a heatwave at 39 weeks. All I could bear to wear was one large cotton tent dress and spent most of my time sitting in the shade with my swollen feet in the toddler's paddling pool! Iced drinks better than hot!

Winniepooh23 · 27/05/2012 20:49

I'm 34+2 and just when you think your ankles can't swell any more or they will explode.......they just get even bigger. At least I found a use for my birthing ball it's high enough to be a comfy footstool.

Coops79 · 27/05/2012 21:21

36+4. Might be able to cope with the heat just if my unborn child hadn't decided to lodge his foot in my ribcage. Have managed to do bugger all today but really not sure how I'm going to cope in my suntrap classroom with year 9s tomorrow. Have been given a special preggers lady fan to help but not much use when you have to move around the classroom.

StarlightMcKenzie · 27/05/2012 21:24

I'm 38 weeks pg and I love it. Finally able to take my coat of and warm my ones!

Kveta · 27/05/2012 21:25

My feet are like balloons and my fingers like sausages. Feel like a one woman children's party :(

StarlightMcKenzie · 27/05/2012 21:26

In fact DH and I are having a constant row about leaving he outside door open. It's giving me goose bumps!

PeahenTailFeathers · 27/05/2012 22:13

You all have my sympathy in this heat. I managed to have mine popped out on the 19th, just before the heatwave started (ducks from things thrown by jealous, heavily pregnant women).

Toomanycuppas · 28/05/2012 04:31

What exactly is the temperature over there? I'm in Oz so I know how uncomfortable it is to be preggers in the heat. Wrung out flannels on forehead, chest, shoulders - well, anywhere really. It seems to help me when I feel overheated eg camping when it's 44C Shock.

theressomethingaboutmarie · 28/05/2012 08:05

To the wonderful Mumsnetter who suggested a cold water bottle, THANK YOU! I slept for 6 whole hours for the first time in days!
