I was very heavily pregnant during the summer of 2006. It was a scorcher!!!! My ankles looked like elephants ankles, and I spent the couple of weeks of pre-baby ML lying on the bed naked with a fan pointing directly at me. When I wasn't doing that I was soaking my feet/ankles in cold water.

It was horrendous, and you all have my sympathy.

DizzyKipper · 25/05/2012 18:33

I'll add to that, it is too hot to be pregnant AND still working! Sad 35+5 here, working until 39 and a dom carer so in and out of the HOT car throughout the day. Not nice!

Want2bSupermum · 25/05/2012 18:48

I was pregnant last year and live in New Jersey where the summers are humid. It got pretty bad and DH offered to rent a shore house for me as the ocean breeze cuts through the humidity. The only reason I didn't want to go was because home was 10mins from the hospital.

If you are hot take a cool shower and let the water evaporate off you. I also kept my hair wet and it helped me stay cool.

RubberBandit · 25/05/2012 18:57

36+3, still working full time, swollen feet & ankles, SPD/PGP...

...and just when you think it can't get any worse, DP has given me his bastarding cold. So, add sore throat, runny nose and irritating cough to the list.

Oh, and hot. Fucking hot.

scarletforya · 25/05/2012 19:14

35 weeks and staying well in the shade.

10000fireflies · 25/05/2012 19:20

36+6 and totally agree. Is too hot. Rubber sympathies - sounds horrendous.

I have taken to putting ice-packs down my top (really makes baby kick!!), with feet in bucket of cold water, together with eating ice lollies whilst wearing a very wide-brimmed hat. I will be taking ice-pack to bed with me tonight.

Hate to complain though, when the weather's been so crap for much of the year. Cooling vibes to all.

StrawberrytallCAKE · 25/05/2012 19:27

I don't envy you ladies at all, I'm only 13wks and enjoying the sunshine and break from nausea that fresh air brings!

On the plus side you won't have to wait until christmas to meet your babies :)

FlangelinaBallerina · 25/05/2012 19:29

Am 30+3, and not too bad all things considered. But I've noticed the baby has been quite sluggish. She's moving, but less than usual. It seems like the heat and tiredness makes a difference to her too.

zanz1bar · 25/05/2012 19:38

I was pregnant in the summer of 2003
my one big tip was to fill the bath with cold water before you go to bed then when you need a pee in the night ( as you do) just stand in the bath and the cool water foot bath cools down your body temp without having a full shower/ bath.
That and drive for hours in an air con car.

McPhee · 25/05/2012 19:43

34 weeks, and that's it I'm moving to frigging siberia. This heat has given me the runs...nice Hmm

InterviewMAD · 25/05/2012 19:54

I am 37 + 6 on dc2 and I would rather it was raining than this. I never like heat and I get heatstroke and prickly heat as well as raging hayfever so it is a bit torturous. My last baby was born in the snow and that was lovely!

openerofjars · 25/05/2012 20:02

Quote of the year from DH last night:"Yes, but do you need two showers a day?"

Listen, bumface, I need four. I'm only having two. Count yourself lucky I'm not spending the day in the bath, okay?

I have cabin fever as it is too hot to go outside, so am indoors hiding from the best weather of the year. Sad

33 wks here and feeling it too, but stayed indoors today which was a bit easier.

A great trick for warm nights is to use a hot water bottle, but fill it with cold water (or pop it in the freezer for a while). Keep you nice and cold and saves on electricity for fans (those that use them).

FrozenNorthPole · 25/05/2012 20:53

23 weeks here, with DC3. Key problem is sun = hayfever = sneezing = realising you need to buy your first pack of Tena Lady pads aged 29 Sad

Littlemissimpatient · 25/05/2012 21:43

Yes! Only 6 wks but I swear it's making my morning sickness/ nausea worse!!

methsdrinker · 25/05/2012 21:44

Solutions yoo hooo
the best way to keep cool in bed get a large bathtowel soak it in cold water wring it out and then use it to cover you when you go to bed, bliss.
I discovered this trick with my second in the ot summer of 2003.
That and a paddling pool and a hose pipe for the day, sitting under a tree with my feet in the pool and hosing myself down when the heat got too bad

Babieseverywhere · 25/05/2012 21:53

I am nearly 30 weeks pregnant with DC4.

Luckily I was very demanding and whilst I was pregnant with DC1 in the heatwave of 2006, my DH decided he was sick of my moaning about the heat to buy me an portable air condition unit...bliss

I have the ac unit in our room and use it at night and if I get chance for an afternoon nap and it is worth it's weight in gold :)

Kveta · 25/05/2012 21:59

I finished work on monday, and the bastard sun has been out ever since Angry

where's the british summer got to? I was relying on it pishing down at least until baby is a few weeks old so I don't have to water the garden. just spent 30 minutes lugging a watering can about. grr.

hope we all get some sleep tonight.

Goldrill · 25/05/2012 22:31

Only 20 weeks here but naturally a very chilly person and seriously unable to cope. I only stopped wearing my winter down jacket last week! I also have a stinking cold and a cough which has just about finished off my pelvic floor - I am truly a joy to be around at the moment!

MamaD1 · 25/05/2012 22:44

Oh too hot to be preggers. I am 28 weeks and I have not had much sleep in the last two nights. DS was an April baby so this experience is new and painful.. On a positive note, I have a perfect excuse for eating all of DS ice lollies..

Bellared · 25/05/2012 22:49

I was pregnant last summer and really suffered as I was still in work and 25w now (just finished one lot of ML and starting the other lot soon) and I'm not too bad. Yet. Mowed the lawn today and DH has just bought me the kids a pop up tent so I they can shade from the sun in the back garden.

Got a cough and cold too which isnt helping.

bumface I love that word its DH's other name Grin.

Those kool strip things for migraines are quite good for cooling your heed down in this weather. Keep your foot spray in the fridge too.

Hope you all sleep better tonight.

applepieinthesky · 25/05/2012 22:52

I'm only 15 weeks and enjoying it. Kind of hoping we don't have a really hot July/August though as I will be much bigger by then.

Metabilis3 · 25/05/2012 23:28

@bibittybobbitty 11th. I did give birth that day to DD2. By CS. The hospital was like a FRIDGE.

starfishmummy · 25/05/2012 23:44

It was like this a few years ago when I was about 30 weeks.
I would suggest that you go out and buy a fan, a sun lounger and parasol and the weather will change........
Never did use the lounger and parasol.......
