Hey all,
I'm 23 weeks pregnant today with my first. last few days I've been getting a really bad pain in my left side, like a stitch that just won't budge.

Started tonight, after a long day of walking mind you, but got so bad I could hardly move, still pretty sore at the mo aswell. Thinking its just due to maybe over doing it a bit today but anyone have any ideas what it is, or had the same?

Thanks :) x

I've had similar when I walk too much. Take it as a sign to slow down :)

hey, i'm 20 weeks and i've just started getting this this week too. Also comes on when i've been walking, even for not that long. Actually on saturday and sunday it was like a stitxh in my left side then last few days has been in the middle. I think it's prob to do with muscles and everything stretching.

I've got my scan tomorrow so i'm gonna ask about it. I'll let you know!

If you are at all worried, call your midwife for a chat. They won't mind at all, it is what they are there for. Hope all well x

Yeah I'm thinking I probably overdone it, easier said than done as my work is quiet fast paced involves a lot of walking, will be glad to start mat leave and rest up a bit!

If it doesn't calm any ill give my midwife a call just to be safe, don't wanna seem like Im over reactting but sure they have had worse lol :) x

Sounds like me at the same kind of time - just walking between the car park and office gave me a stitch. I walked more slowly for a while and now I don't get it (am 32weeks now). Also had some PGP so now have a support belt which I wear for walking more than about 5 mins - don't know if they're related mind!

ellangirl · 23/05/2012 21:03

I had the same at 24 weeks and was so concerned I went to get checked out as the pain was taking my breath away. It went away never to return Grin
I would say though, they were concerned at the time that it could be a kidney infection (I think!) so if you have any other symptoms at all-temp, problems weeing etc obviously get checked out ASAP.

I think it's the smooth muscle relaxing hormones. They seem to loosen the support for your ribs.

Very annoying, because I found I least wanted to carry things or open heavy doors when I didn't look PG.

By the time I had a bump my ribs didn't twinge at the least excuse.

no other symptoms but will keep an eye! Put my mind at ease to know its something other people have had. strange I walked for over 2 hours today yet the pain started walking from my house to the car!

I have been getting this too! Started at about 20 weeks and I'm now 24 weeks. I pretty much walk for a living so have been getting it every day, so much so the I have had to lie down in the middle of the floor a few times!! Have an 8 weeks gap between midwife appts so was considering phoning or getting a GP appt to check it out. Hopefully it will go away of its own accord in time like others' seem to have.

lauren209x · 23/05/2012 21:23

Yeah its that 8 week gap that makes everything seem that little bit worse. Got my app next week so have plenty to ask midwife! I'm the same, walking (power walking more like) is a big part of my job and gotta walk at other peoples pace, recently just had backache with it but this pain has started too. Oh the joys :) x

Hiya, I've just started to get this sporadically too- I'm 18 weeks. It's agony when it happens. I get it in my right side and it can be when I'm sitting still. I've found that laying for a few minutes on my left side makes it pretty much go away, so I'm assuming it's the baby sitting somewhere it shouldn't and by laying on the other side, I'm encouraging it to roll off my nerve or whatever it's using as a trampoline! I've got no medical knowledge to back that up, but it seems to work for me.

Beans1977 · 24/05/2012 15:01

I'm 23 weeks and have been getting this in the last few days as well - I've found that rubbing my tummy where the pain hurts helps a bit... although it means I get some funny looks in the street sometimes!

PickleSarnie · 24/05/2012 15:48

Sounds like round ligament pains. I started getting them both times at about 20 weeks. Can't remember the exact cause but Google will know!
