Am I being silly or should I talk to MW?

Sorry - I don't post very often but I am in two minds.

I am currently about 11 weeks pg - no issues so far, lots of symptoms etc. However, since the weekend I have been having sporadic cramping pains to the left hand side of my stomach. They are not constant, they come and go and they don't take my breath away. I have had no bleeding.

I am not due for my first scan until 14 weeks (and can't find anywhere to pay for a private, reassurance scan any earlier) but am going on holiday for a week next week. Should I be worried and run the pains past my MW? Or am I being silly. I am wavering between the two. This is my third so I do feel I should know what I'm doing! If it weren't for going away I would just sit tight and see if they pass but if its something to worry about I don't want to find out when I'm in the middle of Greece!

What would you do?

Many thanks.

You know what, just call the midwife. We can all tell you that you're probably fine but chat with the professional - that's what she's there for! Then you can relax and enjoy your lovely holiday rather that fretting. Let us know how you go x

Talk to your midwife. What harm can it do? Always better to be reassured IMO.You should be able to get a scan at the EPU wihout paying for it.

You're probably right, I always feel foolish and about 12 years old speaking with medical professionals though!

I reemember once asking something starting "This is probably a silly question...." and the midwife said "You are meant to ask silly questions, you are pregnant!". ood perspective!

I agree, you should talk to your MW and put your mind at ease.

FWIW, I also had cramping with my third pg, and the MW told me it was fine, as long as it was not accompanied by any bleeding.

I am now 27weeks pg, and so far so good.

Call your MW, and then enjoy your holiday :)

Thanks for all your comments. I've been brave (!) and left a message on the MW answer phone. It was a bit garbled but I remembered my name and phone number... I'm a 36 year old professional woman fgs, I shouldn't feel nervous leaving a message for a MW.

I'm sure its all okay, I probably even had niggles last time around and I just can't remember.

No EPU near me so far as I'm aware, hence looking at paying for an earlier scan, but I'm just a bit too remote I think.

Well done, calling the midwife was definitely the right thing to do. No doubt she will set your mind far more at rest than we can.

I had cramping too, much the same at 11 weeks. I googled and discovered that it was likely to just be my womb stretching to make room for the baby.

MurtleTheTurtle · 22/05/2012 16:14

Yes, that's pretty much what she told me when she called me back. She said she wasn't worried as it was to the side and wasn't getting more severe over time. Had it been central she might have been more concerned.

Glad you called and got a reassuring reply.

I have been told by a sonographer that some pregnant women get mild pains from the ovary that produced the egg.
