Please can someone give me some advice, iv done 4 home pregnancy tests and they have been clear blue and they have all come up positive. I went to my gp yesterday and he did a test and told me it was negative. After coming out the doctors i was so disappointed and upset that i decided to go and get another clear blue test which once again came up positive when i got home. I rang my doctors back up and went back in again in the afternoon. I explained to her that I had a cyst 4 years bk that showed a positive test but my doctor is telling me a cyst doesnt cause a positive test when i was told 4 years bk it does. I lost a baby 3 years ago when a sac performed but no embro. Im so confused what is going on as i had my last period 11th april and a slight bleed on the 15th and tested on the 18th and showed positive and now we are on the 22nd and it is still saying positive, I am experiencing cramps like my period is coming and my appettise hasnt been very good and iv lost 9 pounds in a week im worried that its a cyst not a pregnancy. I have to have a scan on the 30th but wondered if any1 could give me some advice of what they think is happening, Thank you

I think you'll just have to wait for scan for confirmation or ask for a blood test.
I managed to get a negative urine test at the doctors once as I hadn't needed the loo, drank lots to make myself go and then of course was too diluted to show up positive on their test!
A false negative is generally more likely than false positives.
I've not heard of any reason why you would have the hcg (which these tests measure) in your blood/urine other than being pregnant.

I was in a similar position, I did 4 home tests all positive 2 doctors test both negative. I'm not 22 weeks pregnant.

The only thing I can think is that when I went to the Drs I was worried about being able to wee on demand so I drank a lot before I went so that diluted the HCG too much?

In the end I went to the DRs with a morning sample of wee in a tupperware container and only then did the DR believe me. Did you take morning wee to the DRs?

If you dont want to wait ask your Dr for a blood test...Can't understand why they haven't offered that already tbh!

A blood test should tell you conclusively wether or not you are pregnant. Do keep your scan appointment tho regardless of the test outcome as if its neg you can find out whats going on and if its positive you can check all is well. :)

yer the doctor told me i had to wait til the scan as its to early to tell if im pregnant, they told me they will do blood tests wed:S and for the test they did i just weeded into a sample and i didnt drink loads before i went in just drank normally. I just dont understand why i was told 4 years ago tat a cyst causesd me a positive test and she sed yesterday that is rubbish it cant do that. When on cornartion street that did happen and they wudnt be allowed to show it if it doesnt happen in real life. If i am pregnant i will be 6 weeks 2morrow and 7 byu the time of my scan so something sud be there.

If you are preggers, then yes at 7 weeks you'll see a heart beat on a scan. :)

I do hope it is good news for you, am keeping my fingers crossed xx

Obviously not a Dr so can't say for certain but I did read on the Wilkinson (really cheap) preg test that there are some conditions that do cause a false positive but I can't remember which ones. I think they must produce chemicals that mimic the hCG that bonds with the chemical in the test. (FWIW I found the information sheet in that test fascinating Blush)

I hope you get a good outcome soon :)

Hey,
I'm sure the docs just use internet cheapie brands to do pregnancy tests (the papery dipstick kind) so it may just be that the Clear Blue tests are much more sensitive than NHS ones and thats why you keep getting a neg result at the docs.

Congrats anyway, think its pretty certain you're pregnant Grin
