I'm still having sickness and I'm now 16 weeks. It has eased a little but I'm still being sick every other day and feeling it every day. How do I cope? Tried everything. Any tips would be very welcome. If I eat 7 bags of crisps it's easier but bad for baby. Help please :( x

I'm sorry I don't have any advice but just wanted to offer my sympathy. It must be miserable. Have you spoken to your midwives/GP about it?

IHaveAFeatureWallAndILikeIt · 21/05/2012 17:55

i'm sure crisps won't harm your baby :-) My sickness went at about 20 weeks, but it did go! My cure was pepperamis (which I stopped eating when I read you shouldn't eat salami, only to find out later that they are pasteurised, gutted!)

SimplySoo · 21/05/2012 18:02

Yeah, me too, but I'm at 17 weeks. I keep reassuring myself that it has abated a lot since a few weeks ago! Like you say, I find snacking helps, and it gets worse when I'm tired.

Having been sick everyday for 6 months and every week for the rest of the pregnancy my advice is do whatever you need to get through the day!

Some days i only ate junk but other days were better and easier.

Good luck hope you feel better soon

Just wait until you feel sick and have indigestion...don't believe the pregnancy books when they tell you you will only feel sick in the first trimester.

Avoid refined sugar, and try vit B6. Both really helped me. Smile

Also, I know it's hard but try to stay hydrated. x

I'm 15 weeks and still sick so you have my sympathy.i know EXACTLY how you are feeling..exhausting isn't it. I describe it as having a monstrous hangover than never goes! Crisps work for me too..but like you say, I'm also worried about the effect on baby. Chocolate makes me feel very very sick, so maybe avoid that? xx

kilmuir · 21/05/2012 18:28

i found the sickness went off around 20 weeks then few weeks later shocking heartburn!
its rotten, you have my sympathy. i used to eat crisp sandwiches

jessebuni · 21/05/2012 18:48

i hate to be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately some women are very unlucky. I'm now 37 weeks and have so far dropped 2 dress sizes due to being sick so much! Hopefully you will be luckier than me and it will ease up soon! Most women don't have sickness much longer than 16 weeks so hopefully it'll stop in the next few weeks!

blondiep14 · 21/05/2012 19:27

Mine passed at 17 weeks apart from the odd blip. Am 23 weeks tomorrow.
Hope you feel better soon.

I got it through both pregnancies, vomited through labour where they eventually felt so sorry for me they gave me anti-emetics!

My advice

  1. Big bowl of cereal before bed
  2. Load the carbs during the day - find something other than crisps that fills the void. I ate so many crackers and marmite rice cakes I swear I almost turned into one. It did make me put on weight but it was far better than puking all the time!
  3. Keep taking vitamins. You'll need them if you are vomiting all the time.
  4. Find a gum that takes away the taste after vomiting
foxinsocks · 21/05/2012 19:39

Ps I still associate smoky bacon walkers and chicken walkers with pregnancy! I think you crave salty stuff with vomiting

MuddyDogs · 21/05/2012 19:45

I was sick right through until the end with all three pregnancies. No actual vomiting but just a constant sensation of nausea as well as unusual and intense cravings for salt and vinegar crisps and sour homemade lemonade. With DC2, I was nauseous for two weeks after he was born as well Shock. Bloody hormones. All my kids are happy and healthy btw so don't fret too much about nutrition if you're feeling awful...just do your best Smile.

sharonhall · 21/05/2012 21:09

Thank you so much ladies. I have my fingers crossed it goes soon. I went to see my gp at 13 weeks and he gave me some tablets but told me they weren't proven to be safe for the baby. So obviously they went in the bin!
I have my first midwife appointment on Wednesday so will have a chat with her then.
It makes me feel better that I'm not alone. But sympathy for all those feeling the same.x x

I've lost just over 2 stone and still being sick @ 22weeks Sad. I would just eat the crisps if they make you feel better, what about snack a jacks, are they slightly better?

sharond101 · 21/05/2012 22:40

I have a fear of feeling sick now as was so sick at the beginning of this pregnancy. I remember crying and saying I would be vomiting up my baby if I was sick anymore! All the foods I ate then I cannot face. It lasted until just after 17 weeks when I gradually noticed improvements. It returned again, in a milder version around 30-32 weeks although if I get too hungry it will always appear. Bland, non-smelly carbohydrate was all that made it better for me. Rice cakes, weetabix (tiny amount milk), tea biscuits, nutri grain bars etc. I always ate immediately on waking and frequently throughout the day. Easier said than done though. I hope you feel better soon.

I've had quite bad sickness from about 7 weeks and I'm now 15 weeks and one lady told me about sucking mints. It really helps, I am taking alongside the anti-sickness meds because I lost over 2kg. The anti-sickness meds haven't fully worked but combined with sucking mints I've had 2 days now where I haven't been sick or been retching. I still feel rough I'm not going to sugar coat it. I do go through a lot! So go sugar free mints. Or I'm trying sugar free gum now as I feel gum may be a bit healthier

Anyone who says sickness is limited to the first trimester lies 😂
Im 26 weeks and STILL get nausea, although no vomiting. I was put onto Prochloraperazine at 11 weeks which is safe to take and has been a god send.
If I dont take it now, I feel sick and cant eat.
I had HG throughout my first trimester and some on the 2nd trimester, think til about 17 weeks. The daily sickness eased right up but the nausea hits me hard if I dont take the medication.
Maybe have another chat with your GP?
Sickness is so miserable so I really sympathise with you.
Congratulations on your pregnancy 😊
